Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan has expressed confidence that polio will be completely eradicated from the country in the coming year.

In a tweet on Thursday (today), PM Imran said he spoke with the Co-Chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Bill Gates and thanked him for the help his Foundation provided for polio eradication in Pakistan.

The Prime Minister said this time last year, we had fifty-six reported cases and this year, only one case has so far been reported.

Imran Khan said he also asked Bill Gates if he could set up a Microsoft incubation lab in Pakistan.

In this regard, the premier said that eradication of polio is the top priority of the government and despite the challenge of the deadly COVID-19 pandemic, the nationwide campaign for eradication of polio has intensified.

PM Imran told Bill Gates that our goal is to make Pakistan polio-free, adding, the polio eradication campaign was launched in Pakistan from June 7 to 11 this month in which 33 million children under the age of five have been vaccinated against polio.

However, the Microsoft founder praised Prime Minister Imran Khan’s leadership on this important national issue and said that commendable steps should continue to be taken to eradicate polio.

He said while progress is encouraging, keeping up pressure will be the key to ending transmission for good.

The Prime Minister also briefed Bill Gates on the steps taken by the government to deal with the third wave of COVID-19.

Warren Buffett has announced to step down as a trustee of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation on Wednesday, giving another $4.1 billion to five foundations as part of his long-standing annual commitment to philanthropy.

“Today is a milestone for me. In 2006, I pledged to distribute all of my Berkshire Hathaway shares – more than 99% of my net worth – to philanthropy. With today’s $4.1 billion distribution, I’m halfway there,” Warren Buffett wrote in a letter on Wednesday.

“I am now resigning from that post, just as I have done at all corporate boards other than Berkshire’s. The CEO of BMG is Mark Suzman, an outstanding recent selection who has my full support. My goals are 100% in sync with those of the foundation, and my physical participation is in no way needed to achieve these goals,” he added.

However, the announcement from Buffett comes weeks after Bill and Melinda Gates had revealed that they parted ways after 27 years of marriage but would continue to jointly run one of the largest charitable foundations globally.

On the other hand, co-chair of BMGF, Bill Gates in his Twitter thread said, “I am truly grateful for his wisdom and leadership, and most of all for his enduring friendship. Warren will continue to inspire our foundation as we work to fight poverty and help millions of people live healthier lives.”

“I will always have a deep sense of accountability to Warren, paying close attention to the data to track our progress and identify areas where we can do better. But the value of Warren’s gift goes beyond anything that can be measured,” he added.

Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan has on Thursday (today) held a telephonic conversation with Bill Gates, co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and discussed the ongoing campaign to eradicate polio.

World’s third-richest man Bill Gates, who had announced his divorce with wife Melinda after 27 years of marriage, had a romantic relationship with a female Microsoft employee.

According to reports, Bill Gates had stepped down from Microsoft in the year 2020 after the board sought an inquiry into the billionaire’s affair.

“Microsoft Corp. board members decided that Bill Gates needed to step down from its board in 2020 as they pursued an investigation into the billionaire’s prior romantic relationship with a female Microsoft employee that was deemed inappropriate,” the report said.

It further added that this was an affair almost 20 years ago which ended amicably.

Earlier, despite calling it quits, the CEO of Microsoft and his wife had decided to continue working together.
