Mashal Khan Lynching: Twitter Mourns The Brutal Killing of Student Over blasphemy

Mashal Khan Lynching

On Tuesday, Twitter mourns the brutal killing of student Mashal Khan, who was murdered in Abdul Wali Khan University after allegations of blasphemy.

#rememberingmashalkhan is trending on Twitter as people mourn the loss of Mashal Khan over blasphemy allegation, later cleared by the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SC).

Earlier in 2020, in the murder case, the Peshawar High Court (PHC) had maintained a life sentence to seven convicts and three years jail term to 25 others.

The appeals were filed by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, Mashal’s father and the convicts who were awarded jail terms by the trial court.

Father’s Plea

Mashal’s father, Iqbal Khan had filed an appeal in the PHC against the ATC’s verdict, demanding further punishment for the accused.

In the review petition, Iqbal Khan pleaded that those who were sentenced to life imprisonment should be put on death row.

He had also appealed for an increase in the punishment of those sentenced to three-four year jail sentences.

Mashal Khan Murder Over ‘Blasphemy’

Mashal, 23, a student at Mardan, was brutally lynched by a mob on April 13, 2017, instigated by rumours that he had committed blasphemy by posting sacrilegious content online.

The court cancelled the bails of 25 convicts and ordered their arrest from the courtroom.

A 13-member joint investigation team (JIT) was formed to probe the case.

On February 07, 2018, the ATC sentenced the prime suspect to death while five others to 25 years’ imprisonment in the case.

ATC  had acquitted 26 suspects and awarded three years of jail term to 25 other accused in the case.

Convict Imran, who was awarded capital punishment, was found guilty of firing shots at the victim student from his pistol.

He had also confessed to the crime before the court.

Nearly 50 prosecution witnesses testified against the suspects during the course of the hearing conducted inside Haripur Central Jail.

The prosecution charged 61 people in the case, while 57 of them were arrested and produced before the court for trial.

Joe Biden to withdraw US troops from Afghanistan: Sources

US troops

US President Joe Biden has decided to pull US troops from Afghanistan by 11th September 2011, almost after 20 years, told sources.

As per the sources, the withdrawal would be based on security and human rights guarantees.

On Wednesday, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin are likely to brief the decision to NATO allies in Brussels. The US President will also announce his decision publicly, the sources added.

Taliban Threatens US Over Delaying In Troop Withdrawal From Afghanistan

The Taliban had threatened Washington in March 2021 with dire consequences if it does not abide by the May 1 deadline for the withdrawal of US and NATO troops from Afghanistan.

The Taliban issued the warning during a press conference in Moscow, according to the reports.

The administration of US President Joe Biden says it is reviewing an agreement reached with the Taliban with the administration of former US President Donald Trump.

Biden told ABC News in an interview that May 1 could be the deadline, but that it would not be long if the deadline was extended.

Sohail Shaheen, a member of the Taliban’s negotiating team, told reporters that “they have to go and the withdrawal of US troops beyond May 1 would be a violation of the agreement.”

“And we will not violate the agreement, which will result in a backlash,” he said.

Member Sohail Shaheen did not elaborate on what the response would be, but in compliance with the agreement he signed in February 2020, the Taliban did not attack US or NATO forces, not even the last few.

There has also been an increase in unannounced bombings and targeted killings over the months.

“We hope that this will not happen, they will give up and we will focus on a solution to the Afghan problem and a peaceful settlement so that a political roadmap can be reached and a permanent and comprehensive ceasefire can be achieved,” the Taliban leader said.

He also confirmed that the Taliban stood by the demands of the Islamic government.

Sohail Shaheen did not elaborate on the structure of the Islamic government.

He also did not say whether the Taliban would accept the election but stressed that President Ashraf Ghani’s government did not live up to his definition of an Islamic government.

It should be noted that along with Russia, China and Pakistan, the United States has also demanded an immediate ceasefire from the warring parties in Afghanistan.

In addition, a Taliban delegation is meeting in Moscow with the Afghan government to discuss future plans for ending the war in Afghanistan.

This annual practice is considered one of the five pillars of Islam. It is said that Ramadan is the commemoration of Prophet Muhammad’s first revelation.

Allah Almighty has talked about the significance of Ramadan in the Holy Quran in the following verse:

Every Muslim wakes up early to eat a pre-dawn meal “Suhoor” before keeping the fast and they break it with Maghrib prayers “Iftaar”.

The Holy Quran was revealed on the Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H) in the month of Ramadan that is why it is important for every Muslim to read the entire Quran in the holy month.

Fawad Chaudhry Gets Another Charge Of Information Minister Replacing Shibli Faraz

Announcement of ECB to visit Pakistan next year is a welcome step: Fawad Chaudhry

Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry has on Tuesday (today) has been granted an additional charge of the information ministry.

In a major reshuffle in portfolios in the federal cabinet, Fawad Chaudhry has been appointed as the minister for information.

According to sources, an official notification in this regard will be issued soon. Before, his appointment, Senator Shibli Faraz has been serving as the information minister.

Moreover, Special Assistant to Prime Minister Imran Khan (SAPM) Shahbaz Gill has extended congratulations for Chaudhry’s appointment.

Welcome back @fawadchaudhry the most articulate and talented person. Looking forward to work with you my brother,” Gill tweeted.

Earlier, during the last cabinet reshuffle in March,  the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government removed Hafeez Shaikh as finance minister and appointed Hammad Azhar in his place.

Hammad Azhar was given an additional portfolio of the finance ministry.

The Prime Minister was also worried about inflation while Abdul Hafeez Sheikh as Finance Minister failed to control inflation. Abdul Hafeez Sheikh is also the head of the National Price Control Committee.

The second reason for removing Hafeez Sheikh is the order of the Islamabad High Court that only elected representatives can head the cabinet committee.

Following the court’s decision, Hafeez Sheikh was promoted from Finance Adviser to Finance Minister, while Hafeez Sheikh was sworn in as Finance Minister on December 10.
