Zimbabwe and Pakistan will face each other in the first Test in Harare tomorrow (April 29th).

After the victory of the Pakistan T20 series, there is hope for victory in the Test series for which full practice is also going in full swing.

Zimbabwe is also hopeful of winning the Test series after the defeat.

A change could be made in the team that won the home Test series against South Africa, according to which Zahid Mahmood is likely to be given a chance to replace Yasir Shah.

The match will start tomorrow at 12:30 pm.

PSL 2021: Guptill, Russell & Shakib to play in remaining PSL 6 matches

Shakib-al-Hasan from Bangladesh, New Zealand’s opener Martin Guptill and one of the most sought after T20 players in the world West Indian all-rounder Andre Russell are set to feature in the remaining matches of the Pakistan Super League 6 for Lahore Qalandars, Karachi Kings, and Quetta Gladiators respectively as their names were submitted as replacement picks in an online session held with the franchise representatives on Tuesday evening.

Australian top-order batter Usman Khawaja –Islamabad United and Bangladesh all-rounder Mahmudullah Riyad –Multan Sultans were the other picks in the first round of the replacement pick process.

 

PCB had earlier announced the schedule of the remaining matches of Pakistan Super League (PSL) Season Six.

According to the PCB, the HBL PSL 6 matches will resume on 1 June with the final scheduled for 20 June. Prior to the commencement of matches, a mandatory seven-day quarantine period for all participants will start from 22 May in one hotel and the following three days of training sessions.

PCB said that zero-tolerance approach towards all those who breach the Covid-19 SOPs, which are put in place for safeguarding the health and safety of all participants.

All matches will be played at National Stadium, Karachi. PCB said that evening matches will start at 8 pm; whereas in the case of double-headers, the first match will begin at 5 pm while the second match will start at 10 pm).

The following is the schedule of the 20 remaining matches, finalized in consultation with the franchises.

The teams submitted a total of 19 picks. Peshawar Zalmi, Gladiators and United opted to reserve one pick each and will be submitting these names at a later stage. The three teams can choose silver category players closer to or during the remainder of the tournament.

In the Diamond category, Kings nominated Sri Lankan all-rounder Thisara Perera and Afghanistan batter Najeebullah Zadran. South Africa batter Janneman Malan was nominated by United. Zalmi opted for West Indian all-rounder Fabian Allen while Qalandars opted for Australian quick James Faulkner.

In the Gold category, Qalandars nominated Australia’s Joe Burns, West Indian Rovman Powell was nominated by Zalmi and Multan Sultans submitted the name of Afghanistan’s keeper-batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz.

Windies pacer Fidel Edwards was nominated by Zalmi in the Silver round replacements followed by South Africa’s George Linde by Sultans, Litton Das by Kings and Australian batter Callum Ferguson by Qalandars.

 Obed McCoy and Seekkugge Prasanna were nominated by Sultans and Lahore Qalandars respectively in the supplementary round picks.

Meanwhile, the teams would need to field a minimum of two and a maximum of four foreign players in their playing elevens for the June-leg of the HBL PSL 6.

Asim Azhar Has A Special Advice For The Students

Pakistani singer Asim Azhar has been raising his voice in support of students following the ongoing COVID-19 third wave across Pakistan.

However, after Federal Minister for Education Shafqat Mahmood announced the postponement of examinations, Asim Azhar once again took to the micro-blogging site.

The Tum Tum singer appreciated Mahmood’s decision but gave a piece of advice for all the students.

Earlier, the Yaad singer lashed out at the government for not considering the demands of students and others to cancel exams 2021 just for the sake of their ego.

Taking to Twitter, Asim sound “angry” as he said the future of students matters when they have a guaranteed and safe future by not targeted by the Coronavirus.

“Abay bhai future bachay ga tou ayega na? At this point, it feels like the gov has taken it to it’s ego to hold the exams this year. With this rising wave of covid, it will be a huge mistake to let kids take the virus back to their homes,” he wrote.

He, in another tweet, pointed out that not only the exams should be cancelled but also the government should consider over imposing a lockdown across the country in order to battle with the virus completely.

The Ghalat Fehmi singer added, “Also, when I ask my government to cancel the exams this year, I also ask them to activate strict lockdowns thru out the country. Aisa nahi hai ke bas exams cancel hojayen aur baaki mulk mai party chalay. I hope we all agree on this as well.”

NA-249 By-Election: Public holiday declared on polling day

The local administration has declared a public holiday on April 29 in connection with the NA-249 by-elections in Karachi.

According to details, a public holiday has been declared in Kemari and Gharbi districts on the day of polling for by-polls in the NA-249 constituency. Deputy Commissioner Kemari and Gharbi districts have issued the notification.

The notification said that due to by-polls in the NA-249 constituency, it has been decided to grant a public holiday.

It may be recalled that by-elections on NA-249 will be held on Thursday, April 29 and government offices in the constituency will remain closed on the day of by-elections.

The National Assembly seat was vacated by the resignation of PTI’s Faisal Wawda, who resigned after casting his vote on Senate election day.

EU to send urgently-needed medical support to India

On Tuesday a statement from the bloc said that the European Union will send the urgently-needed oxygen, medicines, and medical equipment to India as the second wave of the deadly coronavirus has taken the death toll to 200,000.

The decision comes after India requested support through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, which is coordinated by the Emergency Coordination Centre of the European Commission.

This support from the EU will help India to tackle the alarming situation of coronavirus.

Moreover, more help from the other member states including France and Germany is expected to be increased in the coming days.

The offers of support from the EU Member States via the Mechanism currently include:

Ireland — 700 oxygen concentrators; 1 oxygen generator; 365 ventilators;

Belgium — 9,000 doses of antiviral medicines Remdesivir;

Romania — 80 oxygen concentrators and 75 oxygen cylinders;

Luxembourg — 58 ventilators;

Portugal — 5,503 vials of Remdesivir; 20,000 litres of oxygen per week.

Sweden — 120 ventilators.

Maryam Nawaz warns PM Khan against rigging in upcoming AJK elections

On Tuesday, PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz warned the present government against rigging in the upcoming Azad Jammu and Kashmir elections.

“PML-N will fight against it and will not sit quietly”, said Maryam Nawaz.

While addressing a press conference alongside Maryam Nawaz, AJK Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider said rigging in the elections would go in “favor of India”.

“[Rigging in the elections] would benefit India and it will be a move to deceive the people the Azad Kashmir,” the AJK prime minister said. “Everything will go in vain if elections are rigged,” he added.

It is pertinent to mention here that general elections in AJK are due to held in June or July this year. However, the exact date for the elections has not been announced yet.

Maryam criticizes govt for not postponing Cambridge exams:

During the press conference, PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz criticized the PTI-led government and said that the government had put the students’ lives at danger by not postponing the exams at a time when the coronavirus situation is getting worse day by day.

“The countries in the region had opted for other ways to conduct the examinations, then why did this incompetent government put students in harm’s way,” she questioned.

“We want this curse (incumbent government) to end …. we can bear them, but the people cannot,” Maryam Nawaz said.

She went on to say that the present government has failed miserably to control the coronavirus situation in the country, adding there are no safety arrangements during Cambridge exams.

Maryam asked Imran Khan and Shafqat Mahmood if they would send their children to such examination centers.

Maryam also said that Prime Minister Imran Khan had given his government an NRO after his meeting a group of lawmakers backing estranged PTI leader Jahangir Tareen.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi Discusses Bilateral Relations With Canadian Foreign Minister

Shah Mahmood Qureshi said withdrawal delays were always a possibility due to logistics but that the Taliban had largely succeeded in their objective for foreign troops to withdraw and so should show flexibility towards the new Sept. 11 deadline.
