Babar Azam lauds ‘match-winning bowler’ Haris Rauf

Haris Rauf

Babar Azam, Pakistan‘s all-format captain, has urged Haris Rauf to play well in the current T20I series against the West Indies. Haris is a match-winner, according to Babar, and will be back to his best shortly.

This year, he has only taken 12 wickets at an average of 27.50 and a strike rate of 9.29 in 10 T20I matches. His deterioration has been a concerning indicator for Pakistan’s bowling line, especially as the T20 World Cup approaches.

Babar seemed unconcerned about Haris’ recent form and believes he will fare much better against the West Indies. Haris Rauf has been working hard at the gym and is focused on performing for the Men in Green, according to Babar.

“Haris has performed well in the past but in cricket, you get ups and downs. We are working with him to help him understand where he is lagging,” remarked Babar.

“He is a match-winning bowler for us and I have a lot of confidence in him and God willing, we will see a different version of him in this series,” he added.

Since making his debut in T20Is in 2020, the 27-year-old fast bowler has been one of Pakistan’s most reliable players. In the 21 matches he has played for the Green Shirts, he has taken 28 wickets at an average of 25.07 and an economy rate of 8.94.

Four LNG cargoes acquire by Pakistan at highest-ever costs since 2015

Four LNG cargoes

ISLAMABAD: For the month of September, the government has purchased four LNG cargoes at the highest-ever prices of $15.19-$15.49 per mmBtu.

In September and October, the state-owned Pakistan LNG Limited (PLL) canceled eight cargo tenders, stating that the rates were higher at $13.78 per mmBtu, but it has since bought four cargoes at the highest-ever pricing.

The PLL held a closed tender in September and received rates for four LNG cargoes of more than $15 per mmBtu, the highest rate it has ever received since it began buying LNG in 2015.

Three LNG cargoes will be purchased from Gunvor and one from PetroChina by the government.

To avoid electrical load shedding in September, the government is under enormous pressure and is required to purchase cargoes at the highest possible prices.

The first cargo will be delivered to PLL on September 6-7 at a cost of $15.397 per mmBtu, the second on September 12-13 at a cost of $15.497 per mmBtu, and the third on September 17-18 at a cost of $15.397 per mmBtu. On September 27-28, PetroChina will deliver LNG cargo at a price of $15.199 per mmBtu.

Now, the PLL is planning to issue a tender for the months of October and November under the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) rules, fearing that it will receive bids close to $20 per mmBtu, given the current price trend in the international market, and because the LNG suppliers must include the premium under the PPRA rules for holding the rate for 15 days.

According to the government, there is currently an LNG price crunch on the foreign market, and it is impossible to anticipate the LNG price trajectory in the future.

The PLL had previously received bids ranging from $10.2937 to $11.7747 per mmBtu for July cargoes and $10.51 to $10.8312 per mmBtu for August cargoes.

Instead of buying coins yourself, you can invest in GBTC and ETHE,” the announcement stated.

Kevin O’Leary claims that investing in Dogecoin is worse than gambling

Kevin O'Leary

Investors should be aware of the hazards of investing in a crypto asset with no inherent value, such as Dogecoin, according to Kevin O’Leary.

Investing in a meme coin such as Dogecoin is like betting on red or black at a casino, according to Kevin O’Leary, a well-known investor. In a recent interview, he went even further, claiming that it had no intrinsic worth and should be considered pure speculation.

The meme token, which was created in 2013, grew in popularity in 2021 as a result of regular social media engagements by Elon Musk at first, and afterward from other celebrities. However, as its price soared to an all-time high of $0.75, critics warned that it was nothing more than a speculative bubble that would bust soon.

Kevin O’Leary, a Canadian businessman, and author who is perhaps best known as one of the hosts of the reality TV show Shark Tank appears to embrace the second narrative.

He explained the contrasts between Dogecoin and other blockchain initiatives with intrinsic value, such as Etheruem, Solana, and Bitcoin, to CNBC.

He feels that investing is a significant part of a game of speculation, but that there are other components to it. For example, if people invest their money in stocks, they “speculate that the earnings estimates will be met.”

He said, “When you speculate on something like Dogecoin – that’s no different than going to Las Vegas and putting your money on red or black – it’s a pure speculation.”

He also described it as “entertainment” as DOGE has “no inherent value other than what people want to do as they speculate.” As such, he came to the conclusion that neither he nor his team owns any part of the meme coin.

PayPal Teases a Future With “Interesting DeFi Apps”

PayPal

PayPal provided investors with an update on the progress of its new consumer wallet “super app,” as well as a suggestion that smart contracts could be used for “interesting DeFi applications.”

PayPal may begin to integrate DeFi in the future.

The payments giant revealed details about its new consumer wallet “super app” in development during its Q2 earnings call on Wednesday. According to the company’s president and CEO Dan Schulman, the new wallet will contain high-yield savings, improved bill pay capability, and other crypto possibilities.

PayPal has announced various steps to help integrate cryptocurrencies into its platform in recent months. The company started allowing customers to pay using crypto money at over 29 million retailers in March. Recently, the corporation revealed that cryptocurrency withdrawals to off-site wallets will be possible. PayPal teases additional crypto capabilities in its forthcoming “super app,” but no details have been confirmed.

PayPal’s earnings call, however, revealed that the business is studying decentralized financing in relation to its products, in addition to outlining its new crypto-friendly wallet. Schulman responded when asked how the company plans to expand its engagement with the crypto ecosystem:

“We are clearly thinking about what the next generation of the financial system looks like… How can we use smart contracts more efficiently? How can we digitize assets and open those up to consumers that may not have had access to that before? There are some interesting DeFi applications as well.”

India Is Still In Cryptocurrency Denial Mode

India

Cryptocurrencies are completely ignored by the government of India. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman told Parliament on July 27 that the Indian government collects no data on the cryptocurrency market in response to a query from a member of parliament (MP).

She stated that the government is unaware of the precise number of cryptocurrency exchanges or investors in the country. She also stated that her ministry has received no information regarding the use of these exchanges for money laundering or drug trafficking.

In the Upper House (Rajya Sabha), an MP from her party, the BJP, had inquired if the government was aware of the number of crypto exchanges in the country. The finance minister responded by saying, “This information is not collected by the Government.”

In response to another query from the same BJP MP, Sushil Kumar Modi, she stated that cryptocurrency investors who purchased coins outside of India would not be subject to the Equalization Levy. According to Sitharaman, “Equalization levy is imposed on e-commerce operators, not on the investor.”

Bangladesh Bank advises against using cryptocurrencies

Bangladesh

The public was asked by Bangladesh Bank to desist from trading or assisting in any sort of cryptocurrency or virtual money, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Ripple, and others.

The Bangladesh Bank (BB) continues to believe that cryptocurrency poses financial and legal hazards to its users, and has advised individuals to avoid transacting or trading with it.

The central bank clarified its stance on the use of cryptocurrency in a BB circular issued on Thursday after multiple media reports in this respect drew its notice.

BB claims that, contrary to previously published reports, cryptocurrency trading and transactions are not unlawful unless they are linked to money laundering, terrorist financing, or other violations of existing laws; the central bank continues to be antagonistic to this fin-tech.

“A confidential letter sent to an investigating officer of a particular case entailing an opinion has been upheld partially in the media,” stated the BB circular.

It further added, referring to its previous notice from December 24, 2017, that: “The notification is still being displayed on the BB website and the stance in this regard remains unchanged.”

“In this context, it is being reiterated to the public that no virtual currency/cryptocurrency is approved by Bangladesh Bank,” the circular added.

BB stated in its December 24, 2017 notice: “As these are not legal tenders issued by any legal authorities of the country, no one can make any financial claim against these.”
