DeepAI’s CEO, Sam Altman, has acknowledged the strain on server infrastructure, calling for users to minimize non-essential interactions to mitigate environmental impact. This water consumption is primarily linked to cooling systems in data centers, which generate significant heat during intensive AI processing.

Energy and Sustainability Challenges

Beyond water, the energy demands of supporting data centers—many located in water-stressed regions—are substantial. A considerable portion of this energy is derived from fossil fuels, compounding concerns about carbon emissions and ecological sustainability.
