Japan has broken the world record for internet speed by reaching 1.02 petabits per second, which is more than one million gigabytes per second, over a distance of 1,808 kilometers. This was done using a new type of 19-core optical fiber.
The fiber is extremely thin, only 0.125 millimeters wide, but it can carry a huge amount of data. This technology could help power future advancements like artificial intelligence, 6G networks, and the Internet of Things.
