The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has advised internet users to stay alert and avoid sharing or engaging with illegal content online. In its statement, the authority said freedom of expression on digital platforms is a basic right, but it cannot be used as an excuse to promote unlawful material.

The PTA emphasized that content involving blasphemy or disrespect toward religions or sacred personalities is a serious crime and punishable under the law. It also warned that hate speech and propaganda against national institutions will lead to legal action.

According to the authority, spreading obscene or immoral content and circulating fake news are criminal offences, and strict action will be taken against those involved, in line with existing laws.

In a separate development, the PTA has launched an important initiative aimed at helping overseas Pakistanis protect their mobile SIM cards from being blocked while they are abroad. The authority said this step is part of its efforts to ensure uninterrupted telecom services for Pakistani citizens living outside the country.

Under the new facility, overseas subscribers can inform their respective mobile companies and pay the required charges to keep their SIMs active for a specific period. This measure allows overseas Pakistanis to retain ownership of their SIM cards and stay connected with family and friends in Pakistan without disruption.
