ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has established a high-level committee to examine disputed clauses in the Telecommunication Reorganization (Amendment) Bill following concerns raised over multiple sections, the government announced.

Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar will chair the panel, which includes Senator Sherry Rehman, IT Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Economic Affairs Minister Ahad Khan Cheema and Attorney General Mansoor Awan. Legal and information technology experts have also been appointed to assist in the review.

The Ministry of Law and Justice said the committee was formed in response to reservations about specific sections of the legislation. The panel has been tasked with reviewing Sections 2(qb), 2(ma), 27A and 27B, with particular attention to the proposed Right-of-Way framework.

The committee will also examine rules governing telecommunications infrastructure installation, use of privately owned land and Right-of-Way arrangements in housing societies. It will submit recommendations to the federal government.

Sharif directed the committee to complete its review on an expedited basis and present findings at the earliest opportunity. No fixed deadline for the submission of recommendations has been announced.
