Pakistan, Turkiye commit to strengthen ties for regional peace, development

Pakistan and Turkiye on Tuesday expressing satisfaction on the positive trajectory of multifaceted bilateral relations, reiterated their commitment to further strengthen bilateral strategic partnership, fostering peace, stability, development, and prosperity in the region. During Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s two-day visit to Turkiye, he met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to discuss strengthening ties between the two countries. They talked about the close and friendly relationship between Pakistan and Turkiye and agreed to work together more closely in different areas. Prime Minister Shehbaz stressed the need to boost economic cooperation, especially through joint ventures and investments. He also pointed out opportunities for collaboration in energy, mining, defense, agriculture, and emerging technologies like artificial intelligence and cybersecurity. He spoke about the importance of improving trade links and increasing connections between people in both countries. Both leaders reviewed the progress made on decisions from a previous high-level meeting held in Islamabad in February 2025 and said they were happy with how things were moving forward in their partnership. They also talked about regional and international issues, showing support for each other's national interests. The two leaders expressed serious concern over the situation in Gaza, calling for an immediate ceasefire and humanitarian aid for those affected. President Erdogan appreciated Pakistan’s continued support for Palestine. In the end, both leaders agreed to keep strengthening their strategic partnership to promote peace, stability, and development in the region. Pakistan delegation included Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Minister of Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, SAPM Tariq Fatemi and Pakistan’s Ambassador to Turkiye Dr Yusuf Junaid. President Erdogan also hosted a banquet in honor of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the accompanying delegation.
