Karachi Rain: PMD reports up to 20.5 mm in some areas

Thunderstorm rain hits Airport, Malir and nearby areas.

Karachi experienced widespread rainfall on Thursday morning, with intermittent showers affecting multiple areas across the city.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department , Bahria Town recorded the highest rainfall between 9 AM and 11 AM at 20.5 mm, followed by Surjani Town with 12.6 mm and University Road 8.2 mm.

Other areas including Gulshan-e-Maymar, Jinnah Terminal, Kemari, DHA, Malir, and Shahrah-e-Faisal also received rain, with amounts ranging from 0.4 mm to 7.2 mm.

Thunderstorm activity was reported near the airport and Malir, while localities such as Surjani Town, Old City Area, Saddar, Korangi, Defence, Clifton, Quaidabad, Landhi, PECHS, Shah Faisal Colony, Nazimabad, and Garden experienced rainfall in phases.

The PMD has forecast more rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms later in the day. The minimum temperature in the city was recorded at 23.5°C, with the maximum expected to reach 27°C, and humidity levels at 83%.

In response, the Sindh government has placed all relevant departments on high alert. Senior Minister Sharjeel Memon confirmed that advance arrangements have been completed, staff leaves canceled, additional dewatering pumps installed, and personnel deployed at city choke points to manage waterlogging in low-lying areas.
