The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) has approved changes to the net metering regulations, setting the electricity purchase rate at Rs10 per unit. The decision was taken during a meeting led by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb.

As per the ECC's statement, current net metering users will continue with their existing agreements. However, from now on, electricity bills will separately show imported and exported units.

The ECC noted that as solar panel prices have dropped, more people have adopted net metering, which has added Rs159 billion to the financial burden of grid consumers by the end of 2024. This burden is expected to increase significantly, reaching Rs4,240 billion by 2034.

The committee also approved the export of potassium sulphate fertiliser from Gwadar Port. Additionally, it allocated Rs250 million for the Federal Ministry of Education and Rs220 million for the Ministry of Industries. Funds were also approved for repair works, though the details were not fully disclosed.
