Pakistan is stepping up efforts to strengthen its homegrown defense industry as Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir visited the Pakistan Ordnance Factories in Wah to assess its production capacity, export potential and plans to expand local manufacturing, the military said.
Munir reviewed POF’s role in strengthening Pakistan’s defense industrial base and received a briefing on its operations and the range of weapons, ammunition and other defense equipment being produced domestically.
During the visit, he observed tests and trials of locally manufactured arms and ammunition, highlighting the country’s focus on developing indigenous capabilities and improving the quality and capacity of defense production.
POF is also undergoing organizational changes following the implementation of the Defence Industrial Production and Research Authority Ordinance. Munir was briefed on progress in the factory’s corporatization, a move aimed at improving efficiency and strengthening its industrial and commercial capabilities.
As part of the expansion, two new industrial plants are being installed at POF to increase local production and manufacturing capacity. Both facilities are expected to begin production by the end of the year, according to Inter-Services Public Relations, the military’s media wing.
The expansion comes as Pakistan seeks to strengthen self-reliance in defense manufacturing while increasing its ability to develop and produce military equipment locally. POF has emphasized innovation, technological advancement and greater use of domestic capabilities as part of that effort.
The Wah-based complex is Pakistan’s largest defense industrial facility and plays a central role in supplying weapons and ammunition to the country’s armed forces. Its production capabilities also support Pakistan’s defense exports.
Munir’s visit underscored the military leadership’s emphasis on expanding domestic defense production, improving industrial capacity and advancing technological innovation as Pakistan seeks a stronger and more self-sufficient defense industrial base.
