ISLAMABAD: The internet services across Pakistan experienced slow speeds after a submarine cable was damaged near Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, the Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) confirmed.
According to a PTCL spokesperson, the cable cut has caused connectivity issues in certain parts of the country. The spokesperson added that internet services may experience minor disruptions during peak usage hours.
“Efforts are underway to manage the situation by utilizing alternative bandwidth to minimize the impact on users,” the PTCL representative said.
on the other hand, Additional Inspector General (AIG) Karachi, Javed Alam Odho, has asked the Sindh Home Department to temporarily suspend mobile phone signals in certain parts of the city during the 12 Rabi-ul-Awal processions.
He explained that the suspension will only affect the main procession routes, not the entire city, and will remain in place at 23 points across Karachi’s East, West, and South zones. The central procession, which will start from the Tower and end at Nishtar Park, will also see restricted coverage along its path.
The AIG said these steps are important for public safety during the religious gatherings, but efforts will be made to reduce inconvenience for citizens. Along with this, the city has also imposed a two-day ban on pillion riding to help maintain law and order.
