Lahore: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has constituted a three-member full bench to hear petitions challenging the 27th Constitutional Amendment, 2025.

Justice Chaudhry Muhammad Iqbal presided over the preliminary hearing of the petitions filed by Advocate Muhammad Shahid Rana and Hassan Latif Chaudhry. The petitions have named the Prime Minister, National Assembly Speaker, and the Federal Ministry of Law as respondents.

The petitioners argue that the amendment provides exemptions that contravene Article 248 of the Constitution and that the establishment of the Federal Constitutional Court undermines the authority of the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

According to the petitions, the amendment attempts to curtail the powers of the Supreme Court, diminishes judicial independence, and affects the constitutional framework without consulting the provinces.

The petitioners have pleaded the court to invalidate the transfer of cases to the Constitutional Court and declare the 27th Constitutional Amendment unconstitutional and void.
