Islamabad: India has alert Pakistan about a potential major flood situation in the River Tawi near Jammu and Kashmir.

India has resumed communication with Pakistan under the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT) after a prolonged silence following their military standoff in May. According to official sources, Indian authorities conveyed the alert through the Indian High Commission in Islamabad at 10 AM on August 24.

Sources noted that this marks the first significant official communication between the two countries since the conflict in May, making it a noteworthy development amid ongoing tensions.

Although India had earlier announced the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, the recent flood warning is being seen as a positive humanitarian gesture.

Following the alert from the Indian High Commission, Pakistan’s relevant departments have been put on high alert to ensure timely action in case of any emergency.

The Foreign Office spokesperson has not yet commented on the matter, but an official statement is expected soon.

Tawi river flows through the Jammu region in the Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir and Sialkot District of Punjab, Pakistan. The Tawi is a major left bank tributary of the river Chenab.
