KARACHI: The Cyclone Shakti has taken the form of cyclonic storms but is likely to be further weakened in the next 24 hours.
According to the Meteorological Department, Cyclone Shakti is about 910 kilometers away from Karachi and within 24 hours, Cyclone Shakti will weaken further and become a depression.
The Meteorological Department has said that the wind speed near the center of the storm is 80 to 90 kilometers per hour. Light rain is expected in the coastal areas of Sindh and Balochistan today under the influence of the storm.
According to the Meteorological Department, waves are likely to remain high in the sea under the influence of the storm, so fishermen should avoid going into the deep sea until October 7.
Earlier, intensity of Cyclone Shakti had increased over the past 12 hours, with the system now located about 390 kilometers southwest of Karachi over the northeastern Arabian Sea.
According to the Meteorological Department, the cyclone has been moving westward for the past 12 hours and is expected to track northwestward toward the central-northern Arabian Sea by tomorrow. After October 5, it is likely to gradually weaken as it moves northeastward.
Under the influence of Cyclone Shakti, Badin, Thatta, Sujawal, Jamshoro, Hub, Lasbela, and Awaran are expected to receive rain with strong winds and thunderstorms, while isolated rainfall is also forecast for the Karachi division.
