A growing number of teenagers are being exposed to social media content that negatively affects their personality and mental health.
According to a United States (US) based organization’s survey, 73% of young people reported being influenced by online content that promotes violence, dominance, and the pursuit of wealth.
The survey revealed that boys who frequently watch such material tend to experience low self-esteem, loneliness, and a tendency to suppress emotions.
Additionally, 68% of respondents said they do not actively search for this type of content — it appears automatically on their feeds.
According to the survey, such content not only normalizes negative behavior against women but sometimes also gives rise to violence.
In this regard, experts have advised parents to talk to children about the effects of social media and include them in healthy offline activities.
