Kinshasa: Health authorities in the Democratic Republic of the Congo have reported a continued rise in Ebola infections, with confirmed cases reaching 782 and 181 deaths, according to the country’s Ministry of Health.
Officials said the outbreak has spread across multiple affected provinces, where medical teams are actively involved in contact tracing, vaccination campaigns and treating patients in isolation centres.
Recent surveillance data indicates that 72 new confirmed cases were reported in the past 24 hours, all from the eastern province of Ituri, which is currently considered the epicentre of the outbreak, alongside North Kivu and South Kivu.
Ebola, a highly infectious and often fatal disease, spreads through direct contact with bodily fluids of infected individuals.
The DRC has experienced repeated outbreaks in recent years, largely attributed to remote forested regions and cross-border movement.
The government, along with international health partners including the World Health Organization, is continuing vaccination drives, surveillance operations and rapid response efforts to contain the spread. However, security challenges and difficult terrain in some areas are hampering response operations.
Health officials said field investigations and vaccination campaigns are ongoing, with further updates expected in the coming days.

The outbreak, caused by the Bundibugyo strain of Ebola, was officially announced on May 15. However, authorities later said the virus had been spreading unnoticed for weeks, making it harder for health teams to control the situation in time.
