ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has announced the imposition of fixed charges on domestic electricity consumers using up to 300 units per month, extending the scope of charges that were previously applicable only to non-protected consumers exceeding 300 units.
The decision, issued following a request from the Power Division, applies to both protected and non-protected domestic consumers.
Fixed Charges for protected consumers 100 units/month: Rs. 200, 200 units/month: Rs. 300, fixed charges for non-protected consumers, up to 100 units/month: Rs. 275, up to 200 units/month: Rs. 300, up to 300 units/month: Rs. 350, 301–400 units/month: Rs. 400 (increase of Rs. 200), 401–500 units/month: Rs. 500 (increase of Rs. 100), 600 units/month: Rs. 675 (increase of Rs. 75), up to 700 units/month: Rs. 675 (decrease of Rs. 125) and above 700 units/month: Rs. 675 (decrease of Rs. 325)
Earlier, fixed charges applied only to non-protected consumers consuming over 300 units per month. The new rates aim to standardize charges across different consumer categories while protecting low-usage households.
The Prime Minister has also taken notice of NEPRA’s new solar regulations, highlighting ongoing reforms in Pakistan’s electricity sector to balance affordability with sustainable energy development.
