LHC makes new schools registration subject to bus policy

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) issued an order to make the registration of new schools conditional to the school bus policy.

Justice Shahid Karim heard the petitions filed in the Lahore High Court for the control of smog, during which the relevant officials appeared in the court.

During the hearing, the court questioned why measures were not taken for school buses for children. Why was the court order to start buses for 50 percent children not implemented? Court observed that Secretary Schools violated court orders.

Justice Shahid Karim remarked that by December 30, submit a policy report in this regard and make school buses mandatory in the registration of schools. He further remarked that stop the registration of new schools and every school has to adopt this policy.

Member Judicial Commission said in the court that we asked Managing Director Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Lahore to resume the work of water meter.

On this WASA’s lawyer said that we had money problems with the Chinese company, the Chinese company wanted to open an account here. .

Justice Shahid Karim said that the work has been delayed a lot and ordered to start it soon as smog will start again in the next one month.

Permission WASA mandatory for borewells, tube wells

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has made the installation of borewells and tube wells subject to the permission of the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA).

A hearing was held in the Lahore High Court on the petitions filed for the remedy of smog, during which the court said that no bore can be constructed without WASA’s permission and no tube well can be installed without WASA’s permission. The tube well installed without WASA’s permission should be sealed.

During the hearing, the counsel for the Judicial Commission told the court that DC Narowal had ordered the sealed unit to be sealed under political pressure, on which the court ordered that DC Narowal submit his report. DG Environment should inform the court in case of any political pressure.

The court said that due to the efforts of the court, 50 recharge wells have been installed so far, which will help in securing rainwater.

WASA’s counsel told the court that meters have been installed on the tube wells in the housing societies, and with the metering, more than a certain amount of water will not be available.

LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday ordered the implementation of a smog emergency in Punjab. The court also directed the Chief Secretary of the province to call a meeting by tomorrow, BOL News reported. 

According to the details, the court ordered that smog prevention measures should be finalized and immediate teams should be formed. “Take action against factories and factories that cause smog wherever they exist,” the court directed.

The court also issued orders to purchase air quality testing equipment within two weeks.

“The Department of Planning and Development will release funds in one week for the purchase of equipment,” the LHC judge added.

Strict action against those who burn crop residue was also emphasized by the court.

“Contempt of court action will be taken against the officers responsible for preventing the burning of crop residue. In just a week, Lahore has become the most polluted city in the world,” according to the court.

The advocate for the provincial government added before the court that steps have been taken to run public smog prevention messages in the media.

The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Managing Director appeared before the court and gave a briefing.
