LAHORE: The Punjab government has started considering various measures to combat smog in the province including Lahore.

Caretaker Transport Minister Punjab Ibrahim Hasan Murad said work from home, online schooling and restriction on public transport are being considered on Wednesday to deal with smog.

He said that the owners of vehicles causing increase in air pollution will be fined, while strict crackdown will also be launched against the industry, kiln owners and those who burn crop residue on agricultural lands.

The measures taken last week are for the betterment of them. The results are there and hence more efforts are being made to reduce smog.

On the other hand, Caretaker Chief Minister Punjab has called a meeting on the smog situation in which tough decisions are likely to be taken to remedy the smog.

According to sources, the proposal to close the markets for two days in a week will also be considered in the tough decisions.

Sources said that in the meeting, the Transport Secretary will inform about the measures to limit the movement of vehicles, while the Deputy Commissioners will implement the decision to ban the burning of crop residues.

Punjab Govt orders to stop vehicles, motorcycles causing smog

LAHORE: Caretaker Transport Minister Ibrahim Hassan Murad ordered to stop smog-causing vehicles and motorcycles in Lahore.

To deal with smog, the interim provincial minister has directed the field staff to be proactive and take strict measures and said that no exception should be made to the transport that causes smog.

The Transport Minister said that in the last 2 months, action has been taken against 8,348 vehicles and motorcycles, while action has also been taken against 4,682 vehicles that do not have fitness certificates.

According to Ibrahim Hassan Murad 1,511 polluting transports have been stopped in the last two months.

Ibrahim Murad added that people have to understand their responsibility and fix their vehicles that are emitting smoke, otherwise, the government has the power to impound vehicles and motorcycles and impose heavy fines.

He further said that citizens should refrain from violating smog laws and support the government in keeping the environment safe. Ibrahim Murad said that awareness is also being created to prevent smog.
