Pakistan receives six bodies of Libya boat tragedy

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Thursday received bodies of six Pakistanis nationals who died in tragic boat accident in Libya on February 05.

Federal Minister for Housing and Works, Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada received the bodies of six Pakistani nationals who perished in a tragic boat accident off the coast of Libya on February 5.

The remains were brought to Islamabad Airport this morning under special arrangements. The minister offered prayers for the deceased and expressed condolences to the bereaved families on behalf of the Prime Minister.

Speaking at the occasion, Minister Pirzada conveyed his deep sorrow, stating that the government of Pakistan stands with the affected families at every possible level.

He assured that all necessary measures had been taken to ensure the dignified repatriation of the deceased.

He also acknowledged the relentless efforts of Pakistan’s embassy in Libya, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Overseas Pakistanis Foundation, and other relevant departments in facilitating this process.

The minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to bringing back the remaining bodies as soon as possible and highlighted that efforts were also underway to repatriate 37 Pakistani survivors from Libya.

He underscored the dangers of illegal migration and urged young Pakistanis and their families to avoid perilous routes in pursuit of opportunities abroad.

He emphasized that the government is actively running programs to provide skill development and employment opportunities, encouraging youth to utilize legal channels for overseas employment.

Additionally, the minister stated that Pakistan is in constant communication with Libyan authorities and international bodies to investigate the tragedy and combat human trafficking to prevent such incidents in the future.

Expressing his heartfelt condolences, he prayed for the departed souls to attain the highest ranks in paradise and for their families to find strength and patience in this difficult time.

FIA arrests human trafficker in Libya boat accident case

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested a key suspect in a human trafficking case linked to a tragic boat accident in Libya, on Monday.

According to FIA spokesperson, this action came on the orders of Federal Minister for Interior Mohsin Raza Naqvi.

Yasir Mehmood, a suspect listed in the Red Book’s most wanted list was apprehended during a major operation by the FIA’s Gujranwala zone.

He faces multiple charges with over five cases filed against him in 2023 by the Composite Circle Gujarat.

Yasir is accused of defrauding victims by collecting Rs 2.4 million each to facilitate their illegal journey to Europe.

He reportedly transported victims through Libya to Egypt and Dubai where they were held in poor conditions. Tragically, some victims died during a boat attempt to reach Italy.

The arrest was made possible through modern technology following extensive raids aimed at capturing him.

Investigations are ongoing and efforts to apprehend additional suspects in the trafficking network are underway.

On the other hand, Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested a suspect involved in the sexual exploitation of a young girl in Lahore.

According to the FIA spokesperson, this marks the first operation conducted under the International Child Sexual Exploitation Database (ICSC) since Pakistan joined the international database on November 1.

The suspect identified as Asim Butt was apprehended during a raid on Kami Road in Lahore.

The victim is the daughter of the housemaid employed by Butt.
