Robert Pattinson is eager to return as Gotham’s caped crusader—but the long wait for The Batman II has him cracking jokes about his age. The highly anticipated sequel, initially expected sooner, is now slated for a 2027 release, leaving Pattinson wondering just how much time will pass before he dons the Batsuit again.

“I fing hope so,”* the actor quipped when asked by Mickey 17 co-star Naomi Ackie if he was excited to reprise his role in an interview with Hero Magazine. “I started out as young Batman and I’m going to be fing old Batman by the sequel… I’m 38, I’m old.”*

Despite the delay, Pattinson reassured fans that he’s in great shape. “I’m old, but I’m healthier. I think I’ve actually brought my biological age down a bit,” he added.

While plot details remain a mystery, Pattinson confirmed at the Mickey 17 London premiere that filming will begin at the end of 2025. “It’s cool,” he teased.

Director Matt Reeves also hinted at major developments, revealing that Colin Farrell’s Penguin, whose HBO series The Penguin premieres soon, will tie directly into the sequel. “The seeds of where this goes are all in the first movie, and it expands in a way that will show you aspects of the character you never got to see,” Reeves told SFX Magazine.

With over a year until filming starts, fans will have to wait—but Pattinson’s enthusiasm suggests it will be worth it.
