LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) granted time to form teams to speed up action against smoke-emitting factories in the province.

Justice Shahid Karim heard the petitions of Shahid Farooq and others related to smog remediation.

The Director General of Provincial Disaster Management (DG PDM), appeared before the court.

The court also granted respite to form teams of volunteers at the request of DG PDM.

The court expressed its reservations about giving powers to inspectors to demolish smoke-emitting factories and brick kilns despite the vandalism.

The court rejected the legal draft.

The court summoned the officers of the law department for the next hearing.

Justice Shahid Karim remarked that there was the worst traffic jam on various roads in Lahore last night.

The court observed that the citizens have faced a lot of problems due to the traffic jam which also caused an increase of smog due to vehicular pollution.

The court expressed displeasure over the traffic warden standing in groups and talking during duty and remarked that violation of traffic rules is happening in front of wardens.
