Ryan Gosling is reportedly in discussions to join the Star Wars universe as lead actor, with Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy at the helm.
Levy has been quietly developing a new Star Wars project for over two years, collaborating with writer Jonathan Tropper since July 2024. The duo previously worked together on This Is Where I Leave You and The Adam Project.
The film, which will be produced under Levy’s 21 Laps banner alongside Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy, is expected to be a standalone story within the Star Wars universe.
While plot details remain under wraps, sources confirm that the movie will be a self-contained narrative.
Levy’s plans might see a shift with Gosling, 44, potentially coming on board. The director was reportedly eyeing a boy band comedy featuring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, but Gosling’s interest could push the Star Wars project forward.
With Gosling in talks, production could move ahead sooner than expected. Meanwhile, the highly anticipated The Mandalorian and Grogu film is set for release on May 22, 2026.
