Namita Thapar discusses (body shaming) in India

Namita Thapar
  • Namita Thapar opened up about body shaming and being called ‘moti (fat)’.
  • She spoke to a pitcher about her clothing brand selling plus-sized clothes.
  • This is not the first time that Namita has spoken about being body shamed.

When discussing her apparel firm that sells plus-sized clothing with a pitcher, Namita Thapar of Shark Tank India talked about dealing with body shaming and being called “moti” (fat).

In the most recent Shark Tank India ad posted by Sony Entertainment Television, judge Namita Thapar discussed experiencing body shaming. The executive director of Emcure Pharmaceuticals revealed during the presentation regarding a clothing line that sells plus-sized garments that she herself has experienced body-shaming. Namita has previously talked about experiencing body shaming. Namita said in an interview a few months ago that she experienced body shaming as a teenager due to her weight and facial hair.

An entrepreneur proposing her business idea was addressed by Namita in the Shark Tank India season 2 trailer, which was made public on Thursday “India mein body shaming jise kehte hain, jo yeh “moti, moti” bulate hain, uski target main bhi ban chuki hoon. I have experienced body shaming and have been referred to as obese. Aapne aesa kyun nahi socha ki mein just plus size ke liye fashion banati hoon, na ki sab sizes ke liye. Why didn’t you want to create a special brand for plus-sized women rather than offering all sizes?”

In response to Namita’s question, the pitcher said in Hindi, “The biggest problem in the plus size industry is that plus size people are treated like outcaste. We want them to feel included by not having a separate size chart or collection for them. They are a part of our entire range of collections.”

Speaking to author Chetan Bhagat on his YouTube talk show last August, Namita revealed that up till the age of 21, she suffered from low self-esteem and was teased for having facial hair and being overweight. “When I was a child, I was not like this. I used to feel really ugly since I was very overweight, had a lot of facial hair and acne, and I was frequently body shamed as a teenager “On Chetan Bhagat’s chat show Deeptalk, Namita revealed this. She had also added, “Let’s just say that I was staring at the males and developing crushes; no guy was looking at me. There are many wounds left behind when you are body humiliated like that as a teenager.I had severe acne and a lot of facial hair, and a Marathi-speaking student in my class used to refer to me as “the girl with the moustache.”
