PM strongly condemns killing of senior journalist in Landi Kotal

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the murder of Khalil Jibran, a senior journalist in Landi Kotal city of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The prime minister, sympathising with the bereaved family members of the slain journalist, directed the KP chief minister and relevant authorities to arrest the perpetrators and take them to the task.

He reiterated the government’s resolve to take all-out measures to protect the lives and freedom of the media community.

Prime Minister Shehbaz prayed to Allah Almighty for peace for the departed soul and strength for the bereaved family to bear the loss.

On the other hand, Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ali Amin Gandapur took notice of the incident and ordered authorities concerned to immediate arrest the culprits behind the journalist’s killing.

KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi also condemned Jibran’s murder.

The Association of Electronic Media Editors and News Directors (AEMEND) strongly condemned the gruesome murder of the Khyber News’ reporter and demanded the KP chief minister and federal interior minister to bring Jibran’s killers to justice.

Veteran journalist Shahida Qazi passes away

KARACHI: Senior journalist, teacher and former chairperson of Karachi University’s Department of Mass Communication Prof Shahida Qazi passed away.

According to the family members, Prof Shahida Qazi was ill and was undergoing treatment at Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi(CHK).

Prof Shahida Qazi was 79 years old and her funeral prayer will be offered tomorrow after Zuhr prayer.

According to the family, the burial of Shahida Qazi will be done in the graveyard of University of Karachi.

It should be noted that Prof Shahida Qazi has the honor of being Pakistan’s first female TV reporter.

Court releases Bol News Anchor Imran Riaz Khan

LAHORE: A court of the judicial magistrate Lahore released Senior Journalist and Bol News Anchorperson Imran Riaz Khan in a treason case.

Earlier, Imran Riaz Khan was arrested at Lahore airport by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on charges of hate speech and making a violence-inducing statement.

The court while announcing its reserved verdict in the case on the 14-day remand request of the FIA, discharged Imran Riaz from the case and ordered to release him.

Earlier, Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has detained senior Journalist and Bol News Anchorperson Imran Riaz Khan on Thursday, BOL News reported.

According to the details, the anchorman was detained at Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport while he was departing for the United Arab Emirates.

The anchorperson was detained on the same day that Islamabad Police detained PTI ally, Sheikh Rashid Ahmed.

JIT probing Arshad Sharif murder case returns to Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: The Special Joint Investigation Team (JIT) formed to probe the murder of senior journalist Arshad Sharif has returned to Pakistan after completing its inquiry in Kenya and UAE.

Bol News Anchorperson Arsahd Sharif was killed in the Kenyan capital Nairobi on October 23 where he was living in self-exile.

The federal government formed a new special joint investigation team (JIT) formed to probe the murder of senior journalist Arshad Sharif with the apex court on December 08, 2022.

The new JIT includes members from ISI, IB, FIA and the Islamabad police. The members include DIG Intelligence Branch, Sajid Kiyani, FIA’s Waqarauddin Syed, DIG Headquarters, Owais Ahmed, Murtaza Afzal from the Military Intelligence and Muhammad Aslam from the ISI.

The five-member JIT members were in Kenya and UAE to probe the murder of a senior journalist Arshad Sharif in Kenya. The members collected the details about the contacts made by the senior journalist during his last days.

The committee is expected to submit its report to the Supreme Court next week.

LAHORE: Senior Journalist and Bol News Anchorperson Imran Riaz Khan arrested by the Federal Investigation Agency(FIA) from Lahore airport.

Imran Riaz Khan was stopped and arrested by the FIA Cybercrime Wing at the Lahore Airport when he was trying to travel to UAE.

Earlier, Bol News Anchor Imran Riaz Khan said he was informed by authorities that his name was “blacklisted” and he can’t leave the country. The anchorperson said his luggage was seized and was asked to wait.

The FIA cybercrime wing has shifted Imran Khan to Gulberg from Lahore airport. He will be produced before the FIA court today.

This is not the first time that Imran Riaz Khan has been arrested, last year, the journalist was also taken into custody by the contingents of Rangers and police from Islamabad Toll Plaza.

On other hand, Punjab Police conducted a raid at the house of former chief minister Punjab Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi in the wee hours of Wednesday.

According to sources, a heavy contingent of Punjab Police has raided the residence of Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi’s house in Gujrat.
