Bollywood playback singer Udit Narayan has landed in new controversy as his first wife, Ranjana Jha, has filed a maintenance case against him, accusing him of violating her rights.
According to Indian media reports, Jha has alleged that Narayan has taken over her property and failed to provide the agreed maintenance. However, during a recent hearing at the Supaul Family Court, the singer dismissed the claims, stating that Jha was trying to extort money from him.
Reports suggest that Narayan has already given Jha a house worth INR 1 crore, a piece of land, and jewelry worth INR 25 lacs. Additionally, he had been providing her with INR 1,50,000 per month, which was later increased to INR 25,000 in 2021.
Jha, however, insists that as she grows older and her health deteriorates, she only wants to be with her husband. “I only wish to be with my husband for the rest of my life,” she told the media after the hearing. She also claimed that when she visits Mumbai, she faces threats and intimidation, making her feel unsafe.
Udit Narayan married Ranjana Jha in 1984 but distanced himself from her as his career soared. He later acknowledged their marriage and agreed to provide for her.
