PSL 6: Pakistani Players In UAE Underwent Two COVID Tests; Currently Quarantining

PSL 6 Players two COVID tests

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced that the players and officials have undergone two COVID-19 tests after reaching Abu Dhabi for the remaining matches of Pakistan Super League (PSL) 6.

According to a PCB official, the first test was conducted after the team’s landing at the Abu Dhabi Airport on Thursday while the second test was conducted on Friday morning.

“We have been told that only the players and officials turning positive will be intimated about test report. Till that time, all tests stand negative as there was no intimation,” the official said.

However, all the cricketers are currently quarantining in their respective rooms at two different locations after their arrival in Abu Dhabi.

“We are being looked after well and were given a resounding welcome upon arrival here,” he added.

“After the arrival of remaining players, we would be in a position to know as to when the PSL matches will be given thumbs up. Till the time all the players reach here, the PCB will not release the much-awaited schedule,” he said.

Note that the remaining PSL 6  is all set to resume at Abu Dhabi’s Sheikh Zayed Stadium from the first week of June.

PSL 6: Franchise Owners Suggest postponing the tournament: Sources

PSL 6 may postpone

Amidst operational issues, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) held an emergency meeting of franchise owners to examine the situation in the staging of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 6.

According to sources, the issues related to travel to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for the remaining PSL 6 matches, might result in the postponement of the tournament.

During the meeting, the PCB officials sought two more hours to decide about an alternate venue while the franchise owners suggested postponing the tournament.

“Holding the remaining 20 PSL matches were proving difficult under the current circumstances and the tournament may not be held in Abu Dhabi,” sourced added.

They said the PCB had got all the required approvals from the UAE authorities including that of chartered flights.

“Sharjah can be an option and will come under discussion during the meeting,” they said.

Departure Delayed Again

The departure of chartered flights to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has been delayed due to some technical reasons.

This is the third time the players and officials’ departure for the UAE has been postponed.

The flight was previously scheduled to leave for the UAE at 8:00 am on Wednesday, which was later rescheduled to Thursday, 3 pm.

The board is planning to begin the PSL remainders from 5th June but a final schedule is expected to be announced today.

Earlier, a 233-member contingent from Pakistan, including players, team support staff, coaches, broadcast staff and match officials, was scheduled to board two different chartered flights from Lahore and Karachi to Abu Dhabi on Wednesday morning for the remaining PSL matches scheduled in Abu Dhabi. PSL 6: UAE Govt. Issues Visas To Indian, South African Players To Travel Abu Dhabi

PSL 6 remaining matches visas issued

Ahead of the remaining Pakistan Super League (PSL) 6 matches to be played in Abu Dhabi, the UAE government has issued visas to all players and support staff travelling from India and South Africa.

Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) Director Communications Sami Burni has informed that the Indian and South Africans have received visas to travel to Abu Dhabi ahead of PSL 6.

David Miller, Faf du Plessis, Herschelle Gibbs, Rilee Rossouw, Cameron Delport and Michael Smith have all received their travel documents.

He said all members of the support staff from South Africa were also issued travel visas by the UAE authorities.

On Tuesday, the PCB had to suspend its scheduled chartered flights to UAE due to the delay in the issuance of visas.

Two aircraft were earlier scheduled to leave from Lahore and Karachi on Wednesday to take 233 passengers to Abu Dhabi for the PSL. However, a late-night message by the board on Tuesday stated that the flight has now been delayed by 24 hours.

“Departure to UAE from Pakistan delayed by a day due to non-issuance of visas of all passengers,” a PCB official had said.

“We can’t do much, it is what it is,” the official added.

Another source had said that PCB was banking on the assurance of the Emirates Cricket Board. The UAE board had informed PCB after 10 pm about the delay in the issuance of visas.
