PSL 2021 Final: Peshawar Zalmi’s Haider Ali, Umaid Asif Suspended for breaching bio-secure bubble

A major blowout for Peshawar Zalmi ahead of Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2021 final tonight, as the cricket board announces to suspend Haider Ali and Umaid Asif after they admitted to charges of violating the tournament’s Health and Safety Protocols by meeting people from outside their designated bio-secure bubble and also failing to maintain the prescribed social distancing.

As per the decision by the PSL 2021 COVID-19 Management panel, Haider Ali and Umaid Asif will not be allowed to participate in the final battle against Multan Sultans tonight.

The two cricketers were found not to have interacted with any other squad members at any time after the incident and have been placed in room isolation.

Furthermore, Haider Ali has been withdrawn from the England and West Indies tours, respectively.

Chair of the Selectors Muhammad Wasim, in consultation with captain Babar Azam and head coach Misbah-ul-Haq, has named Sohaib Maqsood as Haider Ali’s replacement for the two tours on which the Pakistan men’s national cricket team will play three ODIs and eight T20Is, apart from two Tests in Jamaica.

Sohaib has had a stellar Pakistan Super League 6, in which he has to date scored 363 runs in 11 matches with an average of 40.33 and strike rate of just under 153.

Sohaib has represented Pakistan in 26 ODIs and 20 T20Is, with his last T20I appearance being against New Zealand in Hamilton in January 2016.

On Thursday night, Multan Sultans’ skipper Mohammad Rizwan will try his utmost to defeat the experienced Peshawar Zalmi tonight at 9 pm as the two teams lock horns for the PSL 2021 trophy.

After 33 matches filled with the T20 razzmatazz, Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2021 will have a champion crowned at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium on Thursday evening when Multan Sultans will take on Peshawar Zalmi with the first ball to be bowled at 9 pm.

Multan Sultans are first-timers in the PSL 2021 final, whereas Zalmis have previously tasted the flavour of championship match thrice from 2017 to 2019, including lifting the silverware in front of the Gaddafi Stadium fans in 2017.

Each of the teams won their respective eliminator matches against Karachi Kings and Islamabad United. Now, apart from winning the prestigious trophy, the winning team will be taking a lump sum home.

The thrilling finale show for all the cricket fans is just around the corner as Multan Sultans, for the very first time, are qualified for Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2021 final and will clash against Peshawar Zalmi tonight.

Multan Sultans’ skipper Mohammad Rizwan will try his utmost to defeat the experienced Peshawar Zalmi tonight at 9 pm as the two teams lock horns for the PSL 2021 trophy.

Both sides did well in the playoffs to make it to the decider.

Sultans defeated Islamabad United in the Qualifier by 31 runs to reach their first PSL final. Zalmi, the 2017 tournament champions, defeated Karachi Kings by 5 wickets and overwhelmed two-time champions Islamabad United by 8 wickets in the eliminators to set the final date with Sultans.

Mohammad Rizwan has said the Sultans will go all out for the trophy.

“We are fully prepared. We will put in our best effort and will pray to God Almighty for the desired result,” Rizwan told a news conference on Wednesday.

The skipper said his team had prepared plans for the opposition.

“We will go with a different plan against every player. If we get an early wicket of Zazai, Zalmi has Shoaib Malik and they have depth in their batting. I cannot disclose the details but we have planned for the whole opposition,” Rizwan said.
