ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday said that October 8 was one of the darkest days in the nation’s history as it brought back the heart-wrenching memories of the earthquake of 2005.

On his Twitter handle, the prime minister said that the massive loss of life, the people suffered continued to sadden them on this day.

 

“May the departed souls rest in eternal peace! Ameen” the prime minister prayed for the people who were lost in the gigantic quake that shook parts of the country on that unfortunate day.

On October 8, 2005, a magnitude of 7.6 earthquakes adversely struck Azad Kashmir and different parts of Pakistan.

To commemorate the day, a prayer was held in Muzaffarabad that was attended by the PM AJ&K Sardar Tanveer Ilyas Khan.

Sardar Tanveer Ilyas laid a wreath at the Muzaffarabad Earthquake Martyrs’ memorials.

The 2005 earthquake is considered to be one of the most tragic earthquakes of all time because it displaced over 3.3 million people in Pakistan, while the earthquake in the mountainous region caused large-scale landslides.

ISLAMABAD: Upon the directives of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, power supply from 46 flood-affected grid stations out of a total of 81 power grid stations of different power distribution companies had been restored.

Under the prime minister’s directives, all the relevant officials of the Power Division had been tasked with the restoration of the power supply in the affected areas.

The power supply restoration work had been expedited on an emergency basis in the flood-hit areas. The prime minister is personally monitoring the restoration work and daily reports are being submitted in this regard.

According to details, initially, a total of 881 feeders of 11 KV power had been affected during the monsoon rains and floods affecting supply to about 975,000 consumers, however, 475 feeders had been restored, with power being supplied to 70600 consumers.

To avoid power electrocution incidents, work on 35 grid stations in the flood-affected areas had not commenced yet. These included; 25 grid stations in Balochistan, 5 each in Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Two transmission lines of 220 KV of National Transmission and Dispatch Company had been affected from Sibi to Quetta and from Dadu to Khuzdar.  The work on Dadu to Khuzdar transmission lines would be completed by tomorrow which would restore the 300 MW power supply in the affected areas whereas the work on Sibi to Quetta is expected to be completed by September 10.  Flood water had damaged 10 towers in these areas.

Power supply from 46 power grid stations was restored under PM’s directive. The restoration work was also in progress from Sibbi to the Mach transmission line.

 Two supply lines of Peshawar Electric Supply Company from Chakdarra to Barikot and from Swat to Matta would be restored till September 10 whereas Madyan power grid station would be restored with power supply from Daral Khwar power generation plant.

 In Sindh province, 5 grid stations and 2 grid stations in Balochistan had been still inundated under 3-4 feet of flood water and the power in these stations would be restored with the recession of flood water.

KANJU: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday announced Rs10 billion grant for the flood-affected populace of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as flood relief assistance.

Addressing a gathering of flood-affected people here, the prime minister said that the amount would be spent for the relief and rehabilitation of the flood-hit people of the province. The federal government, National Disaster Management Authority, and the provincial government, through close coordination, would ensure transparency and immediate disbursement in the affected areas.

The prime minister said earlier, that the federal government had already announced Rs15 billion for Sindh province and Rs10 billion for Balochistan province respectively.

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday directed the relevant authorities to immediately evacuate tourists from the area who were trapped there after the link roads were damaged by recent flash floods.

Upon the direction of the prime minister, a helicopter arrived there to airlift the tourists on an emergency basis. The prime minister directed for expediting the operation of shifting the people to safe areas.

The prime minister arrived here to review the losses and rescue, relief, and rehabilitation efforts.
The prime minister also directed the Frontier Works Organization (FWO) to restore the damaged roads on an emergency basis.

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif Tuesday expressed his deep sorrow and grief over the martyrdom of Corps Commander Quetta, Lt. Gen. Sarfraz Ali, and five other army officers and soldiers in a tragic helicopter accident in Lasbela.

In his tweet, the Prime Minister of Pakistan stated, “Nation is deeply grieved on the martyrdom of Lt. General Sarfraz Ali & 5 other officers of Pakistan Army. They were doing a sacred duty of providing relief to flood affectees. Will remain eternally indebted to these sons of soil. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families!”

The whole country saluted Shaheed Lt. Gen. Sarfraz Ali, DG Pakistan Coast Guard Major General Amjad Hanif, Commander Engineer 12 Corps Brigadier Muhammad Khalid, Pilot Major Saeed Ahmed, Co-Pilot Major M. Talha Manan, and Crew Chief Naik Mudassar Fayyaz, says to the prime minister.

The prime minister expressed his condolences and sympathy to the departed families, saying these sons of the land were the pride of the nation who lay down their lives while rescuing compatriots stranded in floodwaters in Balochistan province.

He expressed that the whole country was in mourning over the tragic occurrence. Lt. Gen. Sarfraz Ali and his colleagues, according to the prime minister, were living models of serving mankind and carrying out their jobs with zeal.

LAHORE: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday directed that a summary recommending a decrease in petroleum prices be circulated, as the government has chosen to pass on the advantage of lower oil prices on the international market to consumers.

The prime minister, who was chairing a meeting, stated that the government will pass on the whole advantage to consumers who had been suffering as a result of the spike in fuel prices. He requested that the ministries of finance and petroleum provide a report for his approval, noting that the people deserved assistance after going through terrible circumstances.

He informed the gathering that the government will lower oil prices openly in line with the world market, as a present to the people on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, according to a PM Office statement. He stated that the current government will continue to give relief to those affected by the previous government’s inflation. He stated that the administration will make more improvements to the people’s life by the Grace of Allah Almighty.
