Shahid Khaqan’s name removed from ECL; allowed to travel abroad for 15 days

PDM gears up for anti-govt long march, mass resignations

Federal government has on Friday gave one-time permission to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Shahid Khaqan Abbasi to travel abroad for 15 days.

According to sources, permission from the federal government was given on a humanitarian basis after it emerged that Shahid Khaqan Abbasi’s sister and her husband are critically-ill after suffering from COVID-19.

According to a notification, the former prime minister was given one-time permission to travel abroad after a summary moved in the federal cabinet allowed removing his name from the Exit Control List (ECL).

It is pertinent to mention here the name of Shahid Khaqan Abbasi was included in the no-fly list on the recommendation of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

Earlier in November last year, in pursuance of the Lahore High Court’s (LHC) Nov 16 verdict on ex-premier Nawaz Sharif’s travel abroad, the Ministry of Interior issued a memorandum giving him one-time permission to travel abroad for medical treatment.

On the other hand, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi had demanded the abolition of National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

Khaqan Abbasi had said even NAB officials say that there are no corruption charges against us.

“It’s been two years yet we are unaware of allegations levied against us. This government is busy taking political revenge while the economy, industry, and investment sectors are suffering badly,” he said.

He had claimed that laws are being made to serve the agendas of one person only.

“Add judiciary and military in NAB if you think this institution is important. Everyone is holding the opposition accountable but no one is asking government over its corruption,” he had said.
