Washington: Pakistani-American Saud Anwar has been elected to the Connecticut State Senate for the fourth consecutive term.
Saud Anwar is representing the state’s District No. 3, the American-Pakistani belonging to the Democratic Party got 27,359 votes while his Republican opponent Matt Sierra Cosa got only 1,5057 votes.
Saud Anwar won this seat for the first time on March 1, 2019, since then he has won every election, his term as senator is scheduled to end on January 8 next year.
Saud Anwar defeated Matt Harper in 2022, when Saud Anwar got 18,968 votes while his opponent got 12,189 votes.
In the year 2020, Saud Anwar had an extraordinary success when he was declared uncontested with 35,263 votes.
Saud Anwar contested his first Connecticut Senate election on February 26, 2019. In this special election, Saud Anwar received 4,437 votes and his Republican opponent, Sarah Muska, received 3,317 votes.
Saud Anwar holds a master’s degree from Yale University in the field of public health, and has also served as the chair of the department of internal medicine at a local hospital.
