Pashto folk singer Moin Ali dies at 80

Moin Ali was a Pashto folk singer, who passed suddenly in a Rawalpindi hospital. He was 80 years old and dealing with numerous health issues.

The musician passed away at a hospital in Rawalpindi and was later buried the same day in a Pashtun-dominated neighborhood. His funeral prayers were attended by locals and artists.

The dead left behind a widow, four sons, three daughters, and himself. He was originally from the Kohat district but had moved to Rawalpindi when he returned from Qatar after living there for roughly 35 years.

When Moin was in his 20s, he started his singing career on Radio Pakistan Peshawar with a Pashto traditional song. He didn’t come from a musical background, but he had a velvet voice anyway. He has a natural inclination toward Pashto music from birth. He had performed numerous Pashto poets, but his specialty was folk music.

He has almost 200 honors to his name and has released nearly 300 albums. In Afghanistan, the Gulf States, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Baluchistan, Moin enjoyed a sizable Pakhtun fan base.
