The Met Gala is one of the most important events on the fashion calendar each year, and this year’s edition is set to be no different.
The Costume Institute has engaged a slew of celebrities to co-chair the event, as it does every year, and this year Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively will be in charge.
Official co-chairs and hosts will be Regina King and Lin-Manuel Miranda.
The event, which is hosted by Vogue and held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art every year, kicks off the Costume Institute’s annual fashion display.
This year’s theme is Gilded Glamour, with White Tie as a nod to old-style 19th-century industrialisation while also emphasising themes such as the haves and have-nots.
The Gala was first held in 1948, and only the upper crust of New York society, from fashion designers to the city’s elite and wealthiest, were invited.
Each year, a group of celebrities and designers are chosen to co-chair the event with Anna Wintour, as is customary.
Dakota Johnson, Eileen Gu, Megan Thee Stallion, and newlywed Brooklyn and Nicola Peltz Beckham are among the celebrities set to attend the event, which Anna has final say on.
Taylor Swift is one celebrity who has been rumoured to attend this year’s event, but she hasn’t been seen walking up the steps since 2016, so it’s unclear whether she will be there this year.
Rihanna, the Kardashian-Jenners, newly engaged Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez, and Megan Thee Stallion, to name a few, are all scheduled to attend this year.
Katy Perry teased Page Six that she’ll be taking a night off from her Vegas residency to attend this year, saying she’ll be ‘playing a completely other card.’
Adele, Kim Kardashian and boyfriend Pete Davidson, Billie Eilish and brother Finneas, actors Timothee Chalamet, Kristen Stewart and Gemma Chan, and musicians Harry Styles, Taylor Swift, Hailee Steinfeld and Camila Cabello have all reportedly been invited to this year’s event.
