Measles outbreak claims lives of 17 children in Sindh

KARACHI: The measles has claimed 17 children lives across the Sindh province from 1st January to 08 March 2025.

Out of 17 measles death, 10 deaths were reported Khairpur, five in Karachi East, one each in Sukkur and Jacobabad.

Sindh Health Department has registered 1185 measles cases from 1st January to 8 March 2025 out of which 550 cases were recorded in Karachi alone.

Measles is a highly contagious but vaccine-preventable viral disease. Symptoms typically appear 10–12 days after exposure and last about a week, including fever, cough, runny nose, inflamed eyes, and white spots in the mouth. A red rash begins on the face before spreading to the body.

Health experts warn of serious complications, including diarrhea, middle ear infections, and pneumonia, urging parents to vaccinate their children to prevent further spread.
