The Scary Movie franchise is making a comeback! Marlon Wayans announced on social media on October 29 that he and his brothers Shawn and Keenen Ivory Wayans are returning to the horror-spoof series for the first time since Scary Movie 2.
In an Instagram post featuring the “Ghostface” killer, Marlon, 52, wrote, “Last week I said I had a HUGE ANNOUNCEMENT to make well here it is … WE’RE BACK!!!” He expressed excitement about giving fans what they’ve been eagerly awaiting: “After nearly 20 years, the Wayans brothers are finally going to give the fans what they’ve been asking for … a return to the SCARY MOVIE franchise!” The brothers, along with Rick Alvarez, will co-write the new film, which is set for a theatrical release following production next year.
The Wayans brothers last contributed to the franchise in 2001, with Keenen directing the first two films and Marlon and Shawn co-starring and writing. They stated, “We couldn’t be more excited to be a part of the new Scary Movie and work with each other again… We hope to see [audiences] laughing in the aisles again.”
Meanwhile, Anna Faris, who played Cindy Campbell, mentioned that it would take “money” for her to return, though she expressed a desire to reunite with co-star Regina Hall. “I would love to work with Regina again,” she said.
