Maritime Security exercise SEA GUARDS-25 kicks off in Karachi

KARACHI: The Opening Brief of Exercise SEA GUARD-25 was conducted under the auspices of Pakistan Navy. Commander Coast, Rear Admiral Faisal Amin, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

The second in its series, Exercise SEA GUARD is a Pakistan Navy initiative aimed at bringing together representatives from Pakistan’s diverse maritime sectors; including shipping, fisheries, law enforcement agencies, private entities, and NGOs under one platform to collectively address multifaceted challenges in the maritime domain.

In addition to prominent figures from private sector and fishing community, representatives from various organizations, including the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency, Pakistan Coast Guards, Pakistan National Shipping Corporation, Anti-Narcotics Force, Federal Investigation Agency, Karachi Port Trust, and Port Qasim Authority, attended the session.

During the opening brief, participants were apprised of the aims and objectives of Exercise SEA GUARD, as well as the critical role of the Joint Maritime Information Coordination Centre (JMICC) in ensuring maritime safety and security along Pakistan’s coastline.

The exercise seeks to enhance coordination among national stakeholders while operating within their respective legal frameworks, using JMICC as a common platform to strengthen security of Pakistan’s maritime zones.

It includes a series of practical scenario-based exercises at sea, along with table-top discussions, to refine and improve existing security mechanisms.

KARACHI: Maritime Security Exercise Sea Guard-2024 commenced at Karachi where Commander Coast Vice Admiral Raja Rab Nawaz graced the occasion as Chief Guest.

The exercise involves representation of various ministries, departments and organizations having linkages with maritime sector like Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Maritime Affairs, Ministry of Livestock and Fishing Sindh, Ministry of National Food Security and Research, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Narcotics Control, private entities and NGOs to support multifaceted challenges of Maritime arena both from traditional and non-traditional threats.

Leadership of various organizations attended the session which includes Pakistan National Shipping Corporation, Anti-Narcotics Force, Pakistan Coast Guards, PMSA, KPT, Port QASIM, BYCO Petroleum, in addition to other prominent figures from private sector and fishing community.

Exercise Sea Guard aims to synergize efforts of stakeholders while remaining within their legal framework through a common pedestal of Joint Maritime Information Coordination Centre (JMICC) to ensure security of Maritime Zones of Pakistan.

During the opening brief participants were briefed about working methodology and contributions of JMICC to ensure maritime safety and security along our Coastline.

Commander Coast Vice Admiral Raja Rab Nawaz applauded the efforts of all stakeholders in their contribution for a safer Maritime environment.

The exercise includes conduct of various practical scenario based exercises at sea along with Table Top Discussions to improve existing mechanism of security.

Pakistan Navy ship seized hug quantity of drugs at Sea

KARACHI: Pakistan Navy Ship deployed on regional maritime security patrol seized huge quantity of drugs in a counter narcotics operation at North Arabian Sea on Tuesday.

Pakistan Navy Ship while undertaking maritime security operations intercepted a suspicious stateless fishing boat at sea.

Upon search of the boat, Pakistan Navy troops seized 280 Kg narcotics (Crystal and Ice) worth approximately US $15 million in international market.

The vessel and crew members were later handed over to Law Enforcement Agencies for further legal proceedings.
