Madhubala met Dilip Kumar one last time after his wedding to Saira

Dilip Kumar
  • Dilip Kumar wrote in his autobiography about his last meeting with Madhubala.
  • Who had the quality to “forget the past and live in the present”.
  • Saira Banu at once insisted that I should meet Madhu since it must be something she was distressed about.”

Madhubala, a former celebrity, passed away in 1969 at the young age of 36; her passing anniversary is on Thursday. We examine what Bollywood actor Dilip Kumar wrote on this day in his autobiography Dilip Kumar: The Matter and the Shadow.
In his autobiography, Dilip Kumar discussed how his second wife, actress Saira Banu, had the ability to “forget the past and live in the present.” He also described his final encounter with Madhubala. “Shortly after our nikah (marriage), while we were living in Madras, Madhubala sent me a note requesting an urgent meeting. As soon as we were back in Mumbai, I told Saira about the telegram. I was immediately persuaded by Saira Banu to meet Madhu because I had to.

Said he, “I was saddened to observe Madhu’s frailty and seeming weakness when I visited her home. Her face was pale, which not only indicated that she was unwell, but also made her gorgeous, impish smile appear forced. She exclaimed, “Hamarey shehzade ko unki shehzadi mil gayi hai, main bahut khush hoon!” when she saw me. (I am overjoyed that our prince has found his princess.)”

In addition, Dilip said that Madhubala was troubled by “certain personal concerns on which she wanted my counsel and which we discussed till she was largely confident that they could be resolved. She then let go. I hadn’t seen her since then. The aforementioned passage, incidentally, appears in the chapter that examines Dilip’s second wife, actor Saira Banu.

Dilip and Madhubala first met in 1951 while working on the set of their movie Tarana, and they hit it off right away. Soon, they were one of the most well-known on-screen couples after appearing in movies like Sangdil, Amar, together. Even though they were planning to marry, her father objected to the union. The legendary period drama Mughal-E-Azam, directed by K Asif, was their final collaboration.

Dilip also claimed in the book that his reaction to their breakup was significantly less dramatic than reported in the media. “I was genuinely pleased when we split up because I had also started to grasp the idea that while working together as artists was great, a woman should be prepared to give more in a marriage than she receives. I had grown up witnessing Amma’s unwavering commitment to the family and her impeccable moral character.
