Dubai: The Emirates Airline Festival of Literature, which will take place from February 1 to 6, has revealed that it will host the greatest number of Emirati authors, lecturers, artists, and up-and-coming talent ever in attendance at a number of sessions, panels, and workshops.
As part of the “Bil Emirati” concept, which is supported by the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, all programs are provided in Arabic and English (Dubai Culture).
The subject matter includes literature, sustainability, culture and folklore, and recent changes in the publishing sector. The Mohammed bin Rashid Library and Intercontinental Dubai Festival City will host the festival.
Sheikha Latifa bint Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Mohamed Ahmed Al Murr, Omar Saif Ghobash, Dr. Rafia Ghobash, Maisoon Saqr Al Qasmi, Dr. Habib Al Attar, Dr. Raja Al Gurg, Major Ali Al Suwaidi, Ali Al Saloom, Nujoom Al Ghanim, and others are among the most well-known speakers on the 2023 lineup from
Tribute to father
A must-attend event is a private conversation between Julia Wheeler and Sheikha Latifa bint Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who will share insights on her recently released book “Through My Eyes,” which is a tribute to her father, with the audience.
“At Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, we hold the collaboration with Emirates Literature Foundation in great regard,” said Dr. Saeed Mubarak bin Kharbash, CEO of the arts and literature sector.
He added, since part of our sectoral aims to make sure that our local talent is being highlighted in front of a regional and global audience, we are eager to promote the Bil Emirati strand as it highlights Emiratis who are distinguished in the cultural area for a larger audience. Events like these help achieve Dubai’s goals of becoming a major cultural metropolis, an incubator for creativity, and a vibrant center for talent.
The Emirates Airline Festival of Literature’s director, Ahlam Bolooki, stated: “Creativity is the greatest national treasure of all countries.
The Arab world, especially the UAE, is teeming with a talent for the rest of the globe to appreciate.
Prisoners’ recipe book
Following the launch of “Tomorrow, I Will Fly,” the Festival commemorates the publication of “Feeding the Soul,” a novel cookbook with recipes contributed by prisoners at Dubai’s prisons and correctional facilities.
Isobel Abulhoul, Colonel Jamila Al Zaabi, and Zahra Abdalla will be on a panel to discuss the culinary journey that led to the publishing project and why food feeds more than just our bodies.
While most of the sessions are held at the Intercontinental Dubai Festival City, attendees can also take abras (traditional boats) on Dubai Creek and attend some sessions at the Mohammed bin Rashid Library, where Ali Al Saloom and Prof. Giovanni Bozzeti will share tips on how to be sensitive to cultural customs when interacting with people from different backgrounds in both professional and personal settings.
