PTI cancels Karachi political rally over denial of permission

PTI
  • PTI leader said this decision is made with great disappointment.
  • He said denial of permission without valid reasons raises concerns.
  • He urges caretaker Sindh govt and ECP to reconsider their decisions.

KARACHI: President Pakistan Tehreak  e Insaf (PTI) Khurrum Sher Zaman announces the cancellation of the scheduled rally or Jalsa  November 12, due to the caretaker Sindh Government’s denial of permission and arrests of workers throughout the city.

This decision is made with great disappointment, considering the importance of public engagement in the democratic process.

PTI Karachi remains committed to its democratic values and principles. We respect the need for a secure environment during election campaigns; however, the denial of permission without valid reasons raises concerns about the neutrality of the caretaker Sindh Government and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

The absence of a level playing field for PTI to conduct an effective election campaign ahead of the February 8, 2024 general election is alarming. PTI Karachi questions the fairness and impartiality of the caretaker governments and the ECP, both at the federal and provincial levels, in ensuring a transparent and equitable election process.

Sher Zaman strongly believes that the ongoing election process has devolved into a farce, attributing this perception to the evident bias displayed by both the caretaker governments and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

Moreover, he underscores his trust in the discerning judgment of the Pakistani populace, expressing confidence that they will not tolerate any form of political manipulation or a carefully orchestrated election.

Despite this setback, PTI Karachi reassures its supporters and the public that we remain steadfast in our commitment to democratic values.

PTI Karachi urges the caretaker Sindh Government and the ECP to reconsider their decisions and uphold the democratic principles that form the foundation of our electoral process.

  • A solidarity rally is being organized to demonstrate support for Ex-PM.
  • All citizens of Karachi are invited to participate in this solidarity rally.

KARACHI: President Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) Karachi Khurrum Sher Zaman announces a Bike Rally to show solidarity with Chairman PTI for tomorrow from Nursery Shara-e-Faisal to Mazar-e-Quaid.

Sher Zaman calls on the citizens of Karachi to be united to stand in solidarity with the Chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Imran Khan, in light of recent events surrounding his detainment in Attock jail.

Concerns have been raised over the treatment he has received, with allegations of denial of fundamental rights and a lack of adherence to both jail regulations and constitutional provisions.

In response to these developments, a solidarity rally is being organized to demonstrate support for former Prime Minister Imran Khan and to highlight the importance of upholding justice, fairness, and the rule of law. The event aims to draw attention to the alleged violation of Imran Khan’s fundamental rights and the purported failure to implement proper jail procedures and constitutional provisions in his case.

This rally is an opportunity for the people of Karachi to come together and voice their concerns about the treatment of Chairman Imran Khan during his detention. It seeks to raise awareness about the importance of ensuring that all individuals, regardless of their position, are afforded their basic rights and are subject to a fair and transparent legal process.

PTI Karachi President states, “We believe that the principles of justice, fairness, and adherence to the rule of law are essential for a just society, and by standing together and advocating for the rights of Chairman Imran Khan, we are also standing up for the principles that uphold our democracy and the rights of every citizen.”

PTI believes next Karachi Mayor will address sanitation issue of city

PTI believes next
  • Khurrum Sher Zaman noted that the methodology of collecting waste in Karachi hasn’t changed with this task being outsourced.
  • He pointed out officially, Karachi has only one landfill site in operation, which is located in District West.
  • He said garbage is also shockingly disposed of in informal dumping sites along Korangi Creek.

KARACHI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Parliamentary Leader in the Sindh Assembly Khurrum Sher Zaman believes the next Karachi Mayor must address the issue of sanitation and waste management.

Sher Zaman noted that the methodology of collecting waste in Karachi hasn’t changed with this task being outsourced to a foreign company but became more expensive, as the foreign company has subcontracted to a politically influential person in the district and pays them to collect and dispose of the trash.  The new Mayor of Karachi that emerges on January 15, 2023, local body elections must review these contracts and make the necessary changes to improve the cost-effectiveness of waste collection.

“Plus, the Sindh Waste Management Board (SWMB) must be localized for each division. Instead of SWMB, there should be a Karachi Waste Management Board that is under the control of the Mayor and KMC, with an independent board of directors having the autonomy to hire key staff like the Managing Director or Chief Executive Officer” he added.

He pointed out the disturbing fact that, officially, Karachi has only one landfill site in operation, which is located in District West.  However, garbage is also shockingly disposed of in informal dumping sites along Korangi Creek.  And all the garbage doesn’t even reach the garbage transfer station (GTS) but is collected by scavenger from various locations around Karachi.

He said each district in Karachi is supposed to have a GTS, but only five out of seven districts have one.  Therefore, the next Karachi Mayor needs to ensure that all districts have a GTS and, if possible, expand the number of GTS.

Furthermore, the one landfill site Karachi has should be made environmentally safe for the people who work there and the nearby residents, as it is currently highly polluting.
