KARACHI: Sindh High Court (SHC) issued written judgment on detaining of the accused in the Parveen Rehman murder case.

According to the written verdict, the court had ordered the release of the accused in a so-called high-profile case but the administration had detained the accused under Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) by using tactics.

The court observed that the same tactics were also used in the Daniel Pearl murder case and added that the administration used such practices which is regrettable.

“The accused were released from jail on November 22, 2022, on a court order but they were detained on a letter and information based on assumptions” stated the judgment.

The written verdict stated that even this so-called intelligence report was not prepared by an independent body like IB or ISI.

Court said police admitted that no threatening phone calls were made by these accused. The accused remained out of jail for nine days but no unpleasant incident took place. The police relied on SSP West and intelligence reports which had no basis.

The court observed that the reasons for detaining the accused are not at all valid, people related to Orangi Pilot Project(OPP) are already being given foolproof security.

The written order said the Home Secretary Sindh also did not apply his mind while issuing the order of the MPO.
