PTI

ISLAMABAD: Chairman Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) Sahibzadaza Hamid Raza demanded to the Chief Election Commissioner to immediately resign from his post after historical verdict of Supreme Court on the petitions related to reserved seats.

Hamid Raza said that the Supreme Court also expressed no confidence in the Election Commission of Pakistan and he demanded to the Chief Election Commissioner resign immediately from his post.

Senator Shibli Faraz said that today is a very important day in political history, people were elected through Form 47, until all our seats are returned, the struggle will continue.

It should be remembered that the Supreme Court, while giving a decision on the petition of the Sunni Ittehad Council regarding the reserved seats, annulled the decisions of the and the Peshawar High Court and declared the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf as a constitutional political party and reserved seats for women and minorities should be allotted to the party.

On the hand, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Secretary General and Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Omar Ayub Khan has demanded the immediate resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner and members of the Election Commission of Pakistan.

PTI leaders held a joint press conference after the Supreme Court’s decision to award reserved seats to PTI.

Addressing the press conference, Omar Ayub said that Article 6 should be imposed on those who misinterpret the constitution.

SIC moves LHC over denial of reserved seats

SIC

LAHORE: Chairman Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) has challenged the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) decision to deny them reserved seats in the Punjab Assembly in the Lahore High Court.

In the petition filed by the Chairman Sunni Ittehad Council, the Election Commission of Pakistan has been made a party, in which it has been said that the ECP is neither a tribunal nor a court.

In the petition, the stand was taken that the Sunni Ittehad Council should get reserved seats according to the proportion of seats in the Punjab Assembly, it does not matter whether the Sunni Ittehad Council contested the election or not.

In the application of Sahibzada Hamid Raza, it is also said that the action of the ECP is equivalent to amending the Constitution, the decision of the ECP is beyond its powers.

It should be remembered that a few days ago, the Election Commission Pakistan (ECP) rejected the Sunni Ittehad Council’s request for specific seats by four to one.

The party lost 77 reserved seats due to the rejection of the Sunni Ittehad Council’s request and these seats went to the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz(PML-N), Pakistan People’s Party, Muttahida Qaumi Movement and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam(JUI).
