According to police, gunmen opened fire on a gathering of people attending a birthday party in a township in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa, killing eight of them.
On Sunday night in Gqeberha, previously Port Elizabeth, two gunmen broke into the home’s yard and opened fire randomly at visitors, according to a police statement.
Three people were injured, and the home’s owner was among those slain.
Bheki Cele, the minister of police, and Fannie Masemola, the chief of police, are anticipated to lead a delegation to the crime scene on Monday.
According to local media, no one has been arrested and an inquiry into the attack has been launched.
