In a recent development, Tata Motors introduced the Tata Tiago, a compact and reasonably priced electric vehicle (EV), in India.

There are no direct competitors for the subcompact all-electric hatchback Tata Tiago.

However, it competes with the Suzuki Celerio (Cultus in Pakistan), United Alpha, and Kia Picanto in terms of size.

The vehicle has the following features:

  • Two battery sizes: 19.2 kWh, which has a 250 km range, and 24 kWh, which has a 315 km range (MIDC).
  • Standard automatic climate control
  • Harman Kardon sound system with 8 speakers
  • Cruise control
  • 4 types of regenerative braking
  • Various drive modes

It has a torsion bar coil-spring suspension in the back and a McPherson strut suspension up front.

Additionally, it has 4-wheel disc brakes with ABS. Tiago provides a number of fundamental features, including:

  • Immobilizer System
  • Windows with power
  • Keyless entrance

  • Manual AC

The Tiago EV is one of the least expensive EVs in India with a starting price of $10,370 or INR 849,000, or roughly Rs 2.5 million. Delivery will begin in January 2023.

EV in Pakistan

The Nur E75, Pakistan’s first domestic EV, was unveiled last month.

The electric hatchback was created by the DICE foundation, a Pakistani-run NGO with US headquarters, and it seeks to compete in a market dominated by subcompact vehicles like the Suzuki Alto.

Nur-E will be distributed under a firm called Jaxari whose name was inspired by the Muslim scientist Ismail-al-Jazari. With a top speed of 127 km/hr, it has a single electric motor with 107 HP and 200 Nm.

It will have a 35 kWh battery, which the manufacturer claims will give it a 200 km range when the AC is running.

Using a standard charger will take about 7-8 hours while using a quicker DC charger will take roughly 2 hours.

Dr. Khurshid Qureshi, the founder and chairman of the DICE Foundation, claims that the Nur-E 75 will be less expensive in Pakistan than the Nissan Leaf and Honda e, which are both priced between $35,000 and $45,000 abroad.

Given its category, Nur could be priced around Rs. 3-4 million, though the pricing isn’t confirmed yet.

Driver burned to death as Porsche Taycan EV catches fire

Porsche Taycan EV catches fire
  • A video of a Porsche EV catching fire went viral in China on September 14.
  • This is reportedly the third time in the past four months that a Porsche has caught fire.
  • The accidents have raised concerns about the security and safety of EVs in the nation.

A video of a Porsche EV catching fire went viral in China on September 14.

According to recent media accounts, the car was a Porsche Taycan EV that was being driven in the eastern Chinese province of Jiangsu’s southern city of Suzhou.

The Porsche Taycan in question was involved in a collision and quickly caught fire, according to numerous media sites.

According to reports, the car apparently crashed into a railing near a mall and caught fire.

The young driver, who was in his thirties, was trying to be saved by bystanders when the car door jammed and was unable to be opened from the outside, which ultimately resulted in his death.

After then, a video that depicts the people nearby the EV trying in vain to assist the driver as the car caught fire went viral on Chinese social media.

The accident’s precise origin and motivation remain a mystery.

This is reportedly the third time in the past four months that a Porsche has caught fire, with two of those Porsches being newly released electric vehicles.

A Porsche Panamera EV unexpectedly caught fire on August 12.

Before the entire car exploded, the driver and passengers noticed smoke coming from the driver’s seat, hurriedly came to a stop and jumped out.

Suzhou city saw a Porsche catch fire on its own on June 13th. Once more, the driver and passengers were fortunate to be able to flee before the car caught fire fully.

According to recently disclosed data from the National Emergency Management Department, 640 electric car fires occurred in the first quarter of 2022.

This result represented a 32% year-over-year rise. The increase rate was just 8.8% for cars with internal combustion engines, though.

The three vehicle fires and one fatality involving a Porsche in China have raised concerns about the security and safety of EVs in the country, which is now showing an uptick in vehicle fires.

Xiaomi to launch autonomous EV by 2024

Xiaomi to launch autonomous EV
  • Xiaomi CEO believes the company will enter the automobile market with a 4-door vehicle equipped with in-house self-driving technology.
  • Car will cost roughly 150,000 Yuan ($21,655) and be produced at the Xiaomi Automotive plant in Yizhuang, China.
  • Xiaomi hasn’t disclosed any schedules or benchmarks for the eventual 2024 delivery of its first EV.

A 4-door electric vehicle with self-driving capability is being developed by Xiaomi and could hit the market in 2024.

Lei Jun, the CEO of Xiaomi, believes that the company will enter the automobile market with a 4-door vehicle equipped with in-house self-driving technology.

The company aims to produce the car in its own plant in China, so the plans appear to be moving forward.

Xiaomi aspires to join the select group of OEMs that have gained traction in the automotive sector with this effort.

Xiaomi has already thought about the possibility of working with BAIC to produce its automobiles. The Chinese IT giant is now going it alone after the negotiations did not go as planned.

The car will cost roughly 150,000 Yuan ($21,655) and be produced at the Xiaomi Automotive plant in Yizhuang, China.

On the new car, Xiaomi’s self-driving technology will also make its debut. LIDAR is the foundation of the Xiaomi Pilot, which also includes the company’s current AT128 hybrid solid-state radar system.

The self-driving technology is expected to undergo major advancements, including wide-ranging viewing angles and other safety enhancements.

Other information about the EV, like as its range, top speed, and other important specs, was not mentioned by Xiaomi.

Additionally, it’s unclear at this time if the car will dazzle the world following introduction.

The EV market is still a crowded field, and Xiaomi already has its hands full competing with the big names both domestically and internationally.

However, its advancement of driverless car technology might offer it an advantage in the EV market.

For the time being, Xiaomi has not even offered any schedules or benchmarks for the eventual 2024 delivery of its first EV.

Former Apple employee leaks car project secrets

Former Apple employee leaks car project secrets
  • A former Apple employee has admitted to stealing trade secrets from the company’s autonomous vehicle project.
  • The theft of trade secrets carries a maximum term of 10 years in jail and a fine of up to $250,000.
  • Apple Car is expected to make its debut around 2025.

A former employee of Apple Inc. entered a guilty plea and acknowledged disclosing to a different electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer trade secrets from the Apple Car project.

Xiaopeng Motors Technology, a Chinese EV manufacturer commonly known as Xpeng, is where Xiaolang Zhang reportedly found employment after leaving his position at Apple.

During the course of the investigation, Apple discovered that Zhang had taken a server, circuit boards, and around 24GB of qualifying information from the company’s autonomous vehicle lab.

In the US, theft of trade secrets carries a maximum term of 10 years in jail and a fine of up to $250,000. Zhang’s hearing, however, won’t be resolved until a meeting scheduled for November 14th.

The fact that an Apple ex-employee has disclosed trade secrets before is emphasized by the publication.

The article continues by stating that a worker was apprehended for committing a similar crime, which involved taking instructions, schematics, blueprints, and pictures from Apple’s automobile project and smuggling them to China.

Another incident involving Xpeng involved a Tesla Inc. employee giving the latter access to the auto-pilot system’s source code.

Xpeng stated that it “respects any third-intellectual party’s property rights and confidential information” after this disclosure.

Due to numerous intriguing rumors and stories that surround it, the Apple Car is one of the most eagerly anticipated upcoming vehicles in history.

Apple Car is expected to make its debut around 2025, while the specific date is yet unknown.

Tesla halts production after a rocky quarter

Tesla
  • Company’s quarterly deliveries of 254,695 fell short of analyst expectations.
  • Tesla produced more vehicles in June than in any other month in its history.
  • The company will undergo upgrades to improve production of both Model Y and Model 3.

After the Fourth of July vacation, Tesla Inc. investors have much to consider: a disappointing quarter of deliveries, a record-setting month of production, and now several weeks of downtime at various plants.

Bloomberg reported last month that the electric vehicle manufacturer will cease production on its Model Y assembly line in Shanghai for the first two weeks of July, followed by a 20-day pause on the Model 3 line beginning on July 18. According to sources acquainted with the situation, the factory’s upgrades to improve production of both vehicles are planned to be finished by the beginning of August.

Monday, TeslaMag reported that the automaker’s facility in Berlin will close for two weeks beginning July 11. Citing an unnamed source, the German website said that Tesla plans to approximately treble its production rate beginning in August. During at least one week last month, 1,000 Model Ys were assembled at the plant.

Tesla did not mention these goals in its production and delivery announcement on July 2. The automaker provided an optimistic outlook—it produced more vehicles in June than in any other month in its history—while announcing quarterly deliveries of 254,695, which fell short of analyst expectations.

Philippe Houchois, a Jefferies analyst with a buy rating on Tesla shares, stated on July 3 that the “relative weakness” of the quarter was anticipated. He said that Elon Musk’s comments referring to the company’s new factories as “money furnaces” suggest that Tesla’s free cash flow may have been significantly impacted by working capital issues.

Shanghai’s weeks-long closure due to a Covid outbreak was the most detrimental to Tesla’s performance in the previous quarter. Thousands of workers slept on-site to maintain partial production while the corporation went to extreme efforts to restore the factory and keep it operating.

Tesla’s most productive factory is in Shanghai, while other operations near Berlin and Austin, Texas are barely getting started. Musk hosted opening celebrations on March 22 and April 7 at the former and the latter, respectively.

A few weeks later, though, the CEO’s tone was much more depressed. During those events, Musk danced in Germany and sported a cowboy hat and sunglasses in Texas, but he sounded much more sombre a few weeks later.
