ECP starts issuing postal ballot papers to voters

LAHORE: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has started the process of providing postal ballot papers for the general elections.

Eligible persons with postal ballot paper will complete the process of casting their votes till January 22 while application forms for postal ballot can be downloaded from the Election Commission website.

On receiving the postal ballot, the voter shall send his vote to the District Returning Officer(DRO) as per the prescribed time.

It should be noted that the general elections in the country are scheduled for February 8 next month, and the preparations have entered the final stages.

ECP said printing of ballot papers for the general elections is going on as usual.

ECP directs DROs, ROs to avoid change of election symbols

ISLAMABAD:  The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has issued instructions to avoid changes in election symbols of candidates.

The ECP has directed the Provincial Election Commissioners, District Returning Officers(DROs) and Returning Officers(ROs) to avoid changing the election symbol.

The ECP has asked the Provincial Election Commissioner, DROs and ROs that if it is necessary to change the election symbol, first take permission from the Commission.

The Election Commission further said that the printing of ballot papers has already started so the change of election symbol may not be possible.

It should be noted that the ECP has set the date of general elections on February 8 across the country, for which election symbols have been allotted to political parties.

NA-249 By-election: DRO Writes Letter To Commissioner Karachi

For NA-249 by-polls in Karachi, DRO Nadeem Haider has written a letter to Commissioner Karachi on the growing concerns of Corona.

According to the details, the letter said that health workers and staff should be deployed at the polling stations during the by-elections.

In a letter to Commissioner Karachi, it was asked that Deputy Commissioners Kemari and Gharbi should be directed to implement the SOPs.

In addition, arrangements should be made to sanitize the voters at the polling stations.

Nadeem Haider said that health workers should provide sanitizers to the voters at the polling stations.

It should be mentioned here that on Friday, the Pakistan Election Commission had told the Sindh government that a by-election in Karachi’s NA-249 constituency will be held on April 29.

According to reports, the ECP had agreed to hold NA-249 by-elections on time.

The ECP had directed that coronavirus SOPs be strictly followed during by-polls in NA-249.  Special staff will also be deployed for the implementation of coronavirus SOPs.
