The former US police officer, who was charged with the murder of African-American man George Floyd, has been released on bail.

Derek Chauvin chocked George Floyd’s neck for around 9 munites. He was charged with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter.

However, Derek Chauvin posted a $1m bond and was released from the prison.

A judge has set bail under conditions including they do not work in law enforcement or are connected to Floyd’s family.

J. Alexander Kueng, Thomas Lane, and Tou Thao were also charged with aiding and abetting murder.

For now, all four officers accused in connection with the killing of Mr. Floyd in Minneapolis, Minnesota, have posted bail and are free until their trial next year.

Earlier, a lawyer for George Floyd had said in a memorial service that a “pandemic of racism” caused his death.

Lawyer Benjamin Crump said it was “not the coronavirus pandemic that killed George Floyd”.

“It was that other pandemic,” he had said. “The pandemic of racism and discrimination.”

Moreover, The Black Lives Matter demonstrations – some of which turned violent – became a central political issue in the run-up to November’s US presidential elections.
