“Rajesh Khanna had an inferiority problem when we shot Baharo Ke Sapne,” said Asha Parekh

Rajesh Khanna
  • Rajesh Khanna was an introvert who may have suffered from an inferiority complex.
  • When they shot together for the 1967 film Baharon Ke Sapne.
  • Asha was already an established name in the film industry.

Rajesh Khanna may have had an inferiority complex when they worked together on the 1967 Nasir Hussain film Baharon Ke Sapne, according to Asha Parekh. Asha was already well-known in the film industry, having produced hits like Dil Deke Dekho (her second film), Teesri Manzil, Love in Tokyo, and Do Badan, among many others. It was Rajesh’s second film.

At an ABP event in Mumbai, Asha recalled working with the country’s first superstar “He was essentially an introvert and hardly spoke to people (on sets). He was definitely (introvert). He would zyada baat nahi karni and sit in a corner. won’t speak much Or, shayad (maybe) bani thi to wo unki dusri image thi Baharon Ke Sapne (Maybe because it was only his second film). The film was going to star Nanda, not me, but main Baharon Ke Sapne karne wali bhi nahi thi, Nanda heroine thi lekin unhone kaha nahi karna kyuki wo glamorous part nahi tha. She declined because it was a non-glamourous part.”

Said she, “Then Nasir Hussain approached me and pushed me to start working on the movie. I requested him to change the dates to fit my schedule, and he readily agreed. There were multiple occasions when the dates (of Baharon ke Sapne) had to be moved back and forth due to conflicts and unavailability, and a few incidents involving Rajesh Khanna happened as a result. He was primarily reserved, and I received the impression that he suffered from an inferiority problem. Tabse maine kaha (perhaps, he had inferiority complex at the time). He had a slight inferiority complex, but as soon as he got famous, everything changed.”

Asha began her career in show business in 1952 as a young performer, becoming one of the most prominent character debut opposite Shammi Kapoor in 1959 with Dil Deke Dekho.

In three other movies, including the well-known Kati Patang and Aan Milo Sajna, she collaborated with Rajesh Khanna. By the time he shot these two, he was already a household name.
