Apple may be sued in US for anticompetitive Apple Pay tactics

Iowa’s Affinity Credit Union has filed a lawsuit against Apple.
The company is accused of “coercing” owners of its smartphones, tablets, and watches to use Apple Pay.
This may become a class action lawsuit.

Iowa’s Affinity Credit Union has filed a lawsuit against Apple, alleging anticompetitive practises in the way the company administers Apple Pay. This may become a class action lawsuit and is comparable to a charge in the EU from the previous year.

Apple is accused of “coerces” owners of its smartphones, tablets, and watches to use Apple Pay and preventing other payment providers from competing on its platforms. This has resulted in 4,000 US banks and credit unions using Apple Pay and paying at least $1 billion annually in excess fees.

Apple charges 0.15 percent for credit card transactions and 0.5 cents for debit card transactions. The competing services for Android are free.

Bitcoin to be soon accepted by this movie theater chain

American movie-goers can soon use bitcoin to pay for tickets and allowances, AMC announced. For online purchases at U.S. theaters, Apple Pay and Google Pay will also shortly be accepted.

“I’ve had to learn more in the past six months about blockchain and cryptocurrency than I learned about it in the entire decade before that.”

Adam hopes the company can become more involved “in this new burgeoning cryptocurrency universe” and leadership is “quite intrigued” by the business opportunities it involves.

Coinbase users now can purchase cryptocurrency using Apple Pay

Coinbase announced on Thursday that consumers can now buy crypto assets on its website using Apple Pay, with Google Pay integration coming soon.

“Today we’re introducing new and seamless ways to enable crypto buys with linked debit cards to Apple Pay and Google Pay, and instant cashouts up to $100,000 per transaction available 24/7,” on Thursday, according to a Coinbase blog post.

“If you already have a Visa or Mastercard debit card linked in your Apple Wallet, Apple Pay will automatically appear as a payment method when you’re buying crypto with Coinbase on an Apple Pay-supported iOS device or Safari web browser,” the blog post mentioned.

Coinbase plans to make Google Pay available “later this fall.”

Coinbase announced the same thing in the same post. “instant cashouts via Real-Time Payments (RTP), enabling customers in the U.S. with linked bank accounts to instantly and securely cash out up to $100,000 per transaction.”

Gemini, a digital asset exchange, made a similar step in April when it added Google Pay and Apple Pay money transfer options to its platform.
