Intelligence Bureau gets division status

ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Prime Minister Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar changed the status of the civilian intelligence agency Intelligence Bureau (IB).

According to the notification, the caretaker prime minister changed the IB from a bureau to a division status. The change of status was approved by special efforts of Director General (DG) IB Fawad Asadullah.

After the approval of the caretaker Prime Minister, the Intelligence Bureau was converted into a division and this decision was taken to improve the administrative and financial affairs.

After the approval of the caretaker Prime Minister, the Cabinet Division issued the orders, after which the DG IB will serve as the ex-officio Secretary of the Division.

The orders to change the status of IB have been implemented immediately.

LHC reserves verdict on appeal to remove interim PM

LAHORE:  Lahore High Court (LHC) reserved verdict on the intra-court appeal to remove Caretaker Prime Minister Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar from office.

A two-member bench headed by Justice Ali Baqer Najafi heard the intra-court appeal filed by Muqasit Saleem Advocate seeking the removal of Caretaker Prime Minister Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar from office.

The government lawyer said that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has announced the general elections and general elections are going to be held on February 8.

The ECP has started printing the ballot papers, after which the petition has become ineffective and should be dismissed.

It was argued in the petition that the caretaker prime minister’s constitutional term of 90 days was completed on November 15, and it is illegal for the caretaker prime minister to remain in office after 90 days.

A two-member bench of the Lahore High Court, after hearing the arguments, reserved its decision on the intra-court appeal to remove Caretaker Prime Minister Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar from office.

Govt set up high-level committee for security of elections

ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Prime Minister Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar has established a committee related to security in the general elections.

The notification of the committee set up by the caretaker prime minister for the general elections has been issued. The committee comprised chief secretaries of the four provinces and the home secretary.

The Minister of Communications will be the convener of the committee while committee consists of seven-members.

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has summoned caretaker Prime Minister Anwar ul Haq Kakar in a personal capacity on October 15 in the case of allegedly revised translation of the holy Quran.

The case against the publication of allegedly distorted translation of the holy Quran was heard in the Lahore High Court. Justice Shujaat Ali Khan of the LHC heard the petitions of Basharat Ali and others.

The court expressed its annoyance for not submitting the report on the implementation of its order. The court inquired about the response of the public prosecutor.

The court said that it was told to bring it to the notice of the former prime minister at the last hearing, why this matter was not brought to the notice of the caretaker prime minister. Court remarked that no officer of the federal government institutions appeared today, if the court order is not implemented, the government Punjab also does not seem serious in this matter.

The court reprimanded the Additional IG Shahzad Sultan and said that he is not serious in the case to his extent, on which the Additional IG said that the challans of the accused have been submitted.

The court asked why the progress report has not been submitted so far and it seems that authorities concerned no intention to implement this court order.

Later, on October 15, the court summoned the caretaker prime minister for an explanation in his personal capacity and ordered that the attorney general also appear for assistance.

Investigation against Caretaker PM closes on merit: NAB

ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has said that the investigation against Caretaker Prime Minister Anwar ul Haq Kakar closed on merit.

NAB officials, the complaint against the caretaker prime minister had nothing to do with the NAB amendments, and the investigation against him was shelved on merit.

NAB sources say that an asset case was opened against Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar in Quetta, but his assets were not found in the investigation.

NAB sources said that the caretaker prime minister’s case was cleared before he assumed power.
